It never seems to amaze me why players think a surprise attack down the channel will work.

Sure sometimes it does work but the speed this ship goes its a disaster in the making

Spoiler

Battleship Number 11: USS Missouri, in the Panama Canal, approaching the Chagres River railroad crossing, 16 July 1915. View looks north, with USS Ohio (BB-12) and USS Wisconsin (BB-9) in the background. [

They watched 2 much Flambass and the like, OFC they fail to realise CCs often cherry pick the games where it was succesfoul to show such BS and they dont showcase the 10 times they got sunk doing it before that one time it worked out...

I welcome those who think their new shiny ship is invincible.  My torpedoes will form a rebuttal.

That would be the Illinois-class Battleship Wisconsin, commissioned in 1901.  BB-64 was the ship to inherit the name after BB-9 was scrapped in 1922.

That photo is interesting because it shows the secondary guns that were later removed, but also the aft 'chicken wire' mast tower that was added.  The photo is dated 1915, so I guess it was between modernization refits.  It's also possible, since there are no hull numbers I can see, that the photographer mistook Ohio or Missouri  for her, as they were travelling together.

Nobody thinks its a surprise attack. This may sound weird but some people play this game to have fun, and that's fun to them. I know, crazy concept.

And this is why the Empire had no shortage of Stormtrooper recruits.  It isn't about surprise, guile, tactics, or out thinking your foe when there is a glorious charge into their midst just waiting to be executed!  We just need a few dimwit....er, brave people to lead the way!

For the Empire!

This is the most smartest move, because they won't expect it. Unless they know that we think they won't expect it. Though, if we know that they.... oh bother I can't make any sense out of this any more.

"Sir, we can't go through there, it's suicide!"

"Exactly!  They will never think that we'd commit suicide by running into a situation where there is no surviving to the other end, and if we did there is only certain death awaiting us when we arrive!"

"So, we're -not- going through there."

"Don't be an idiot!  Of course we are!  The fact that no sane person would do it means they'll never expect us!  Classic military strategy...surprise attack!"

"It'll be a slaughter!!"

"That's the spirit!"

Oh yeah, last game in Two Brothers I saw a submarine sail from the far side to the center.

It took almost 5 minutes to get there. He was tier 6 against a heavily tier 8 team.

2 minutes after getting there, he was sunk... I did warn him, but apparently he knew better...

Ah well hopefully he learned his lesson...

Yes.  He learned that he has to go through - in reverse- next time!  Clearly, going in front-first was a mistake!

It can't be Wisconsin, as BB-9 had a pair of grouped funnels side by side...not a triple set along the axis of the ship.

It is either USS Ohio or USS Missouri. Since both are the same class...without hull numbers it would be difficult for me to note which.

Agreed.  I hadn't spotted the side-by-side funnel configuration.  Definitely a Maine class then.  My guess is it's Ohio, as there is an almost identical photo of Missouri during that transition that shows her flying different flags and lacking the tarp across the forecastle.

Edit:  confirmed that it's Ohio.  Photo on Wikipedia matches.  Note the picture posted here is reversed from the one with notations on wiki, so it looks odd.

Just for a laugh, going through the middle can be translated to Chinese as "中出".

If done right it is actually a quite efficient military strategy. Confuse the enemy and force them to take a fight on multiple fronts. Flambass is probably the "Go mid on 2 Brothers" king. Depending on the ship you can sneak into the cap which either gives youre team if for free or it forces the enemy team to try and deal with you and going by the normal communication and teamwork in randoms that is usually not that good.

And if they take the bite it weakens one of the normal flanks which makes that gets overrun. So its minimal effort (1 ship) maximum effect/disturbance (most likely more then one to go and deal with you), and if youre skilled and in a strong ship you can take them out.

Yes, but not at the start.

Well, not Spood Beast with Kleber Yolo style but if you go half speed and just peak around the bend in the middle of the channel and then sneak forward you usually start flipping the cap when their whole team has fully committed to either side.

Of course it has to be mentioned as well that this tactic is less efficient when there is a CV in play. Smart subs usually don't venture into mid channel since its so shallow its hard for them to dive.

"Sir, Commodore Williams extends his compliments and wishes to deliver his report.

"At 0745, pursuant to the established strategy set forth at the tea meeting hosted by yourself, we proceeded into the Cleft with two Cruisers as escort.  The majesty of my battleship's formidable gunnery would lay waste to the enemy from behind as your squadron approached from around the island.  All went according to plan.

"Right up until we turned the bend in the channel and found out the enemy had the same idea.  The despicable foe had sent two torpedo Destroyers to counter flank our righteous forces up the same passage we were on.  In the confines of the channel, with no room to turn, the battle was quick and short.

"I regret to inform his Lordship that the incredible salvo of unavoidable torpedoes from the cowardly enemy decimated His Majesty's warships most effectively.  You may find our ships in approximately ten meters of water south of the bend, and I am radioing this report from the deck of the surviving enemy Destroyer, which should be launching torpedoes at you as you read this.

"I am looking forwards to reporting to you in person once you arrive on this ship.  Please be certain to bring a dry set of clothes as I am afraid my crew and I have none to spare.

"With greatest wish for your speedy arrival, Commodore Williams, Tenth Squadron Commanding."
