WG, fortunately, gave Tiger a 25mm bow.  This is better than most (all?) UK light cruisers, including their T10 lot.  Instead they get the squishy 19mm bow..which can get overmatched by 11 inchers.

A 25mm bow can tank 14 inchers and smaller.  15 inchers and bigger and it's get thinner and pray.  But 14 inchers and below...bounce away.  Here's a match where I was able to go bow on to a Scharn.  Eat your heart out Minotaur.

Most tier VIII+ UK CLs actually have 16mm extremity plating (even less than the 19mm found on high tier DDs). There are quite a few cruisers with “intermediate” caliber (9-10”) guns that can also punch right through their bows and sterns regardless of angle:

234mm - Drake, Goliath, Gibraltar, and Andalucia

240mm - Johan de Witt, Henri IV, and Conde

254mm - Napoli, Piemonte, Novosibirsk, and Castilla

Balancing factor for the firepower and utility they're able to provide imo. Still good ships you should grind down and improve with. But yes they do get slapped very easily.

Yes, they have armor more akin to “super light” cruisers armed with DD-caliber guns, and were also explicitly excluded from the cruiser armor changes applied to other CLs that accompanied the IFHE rework several years ago. They’ve always been intended as glass cannons, which is why they had other unique survivability tools compared to their peers for so long (notably smoke and heals at most tiers, but also improved acceleration).

I still find it somewhat amusing that we have cruisers with thinner plating than same-tier destroyers, though.
