UNIQUE UPGRADES FOR VERMONT AND COLOMBO - CLOSED TEST 13.3

In Update 13.3 we will commence the testing of 2 new Unique Upgrades for Vermont and Cristoforo Colombo.

For the testing of these new Unique Upgrades we will utilize 2 clones of the ships:X UTAH, a clone of X VERMONT and X AMERIGO VESPUCCI, a clone of X CRISTOFORO COLOMBO.

These ships will have changes applied according to the effects of their Unique Upgrade:

X UTAH

  • Upgrade slot 5 removed
  • Main battery reload time reduced by 8%
  • Continuous AA damage increased by 15%
  • ASW Airstrike reload time reduced by 15%

X AMERIGO VESPUCCI

  • Upgrade slot 6 removed
  • Main Battery shell dispersion reduced by 6%
  • Main battery reload time reduced by 6%

Please note that all information in the development blog is preliminary. Announced adjustments and features may change multiple times during testing. The final information will be published on our game's website.

It’s interesting that both of these UUs seem to be aimed at addressing common complaints regarding the ships in question (reload for Vermont and accuracy for Colombo). I’m not sure how I feel about that, because on the one hand it suggests WG is actually listening to feedback, but on the other hand it’s also a bit “boring.”

Vermont’s UU is looking like a hard pass. The idea of sacrificing her excellent concealment and its synergy with Brisk (as well as the long reload that allows a well-positioned player to drop out of detection between salvoes if needed) isn’t worth the trade IMO. Of course, designing a UU for Vermont was always going to be tricky because how much benefit she gets from both the “traditional” slot 5 (concealment) and slot 6 (dispersion) upgrades.

Colombo’s looks like an outright superior option to MBM3 (reload). The reduced dispersion is incredibly attractive, but I kind of wish the upgrade did more to flesh out some of the Italian BBs notable features rather than simply patch up one of Colombo’s biggest weaknesses. Although I wonder how much Sicilia’s introduction might have limited the dev’s options. Something that improved the exhaust smoke and/or modified the secondary battery with SAP would have been an interesting direction to take for a UU, but WG gave us a near-clone with those gimmicks instead.

  • Depth Charge damage decreased: 2200 to 2400

Is it increased or decreased and are the figures correct?

At first glance my reaction is the following... Life is going to suck for SUBs...

High tier subs, facing attacks against has been power creeps across the board.

Mid tiers its going to be ok...

Low tiers... More bombs less or the same DMG...

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In summery, Subs are being power creeps at high tiers and getting MORE dumped on at low tiers. The sweet spot IMO...

Mid tiers.

BTW if you own the Haarlem... What are you going to do with only 4 bullets..

It’s a buff - the typo is already fixed.

Turns out deck-mounted ASW is underperforming. What a surprise. /s

Good to know.  Thanks.

Well, it is aimed by the player performing maneuvers with their ship, so ...
It seems like a skill issue, to me.  😉

The 50% buff to submarine manoeuvrability has made them very OP in the hands of a smart player. I have seen a 90% drop off in DC hits since then, despite the ping marker being more informative. This month the submarine dumb fire torps got a large damage buff too. Submarines are stronger now than they were before.

Columbo mod looks really really good. If it stays like this I'm 100% going to pick it up.

IF I take your perception into account.. Two buffs = Power creep.

This equation I'm against.. especially at high tiers.. Its too much power and because of it... Matches are going to get shorter and shorter.. Leading to easier more eventuality of blow outs to happen more frequently.
