Generous WarGaming?

This patch cycle and battlepass have been strangely generous for WarGaming standards of late.

I may actually get to earning enough Java Sea tokens to get the Perth...despite my obvious issues with real life preventing a lot of gameplay.

The Battle Pass reward, though loot crates (ugh....); were actually crates delivering good value. Again, this on a battle pass that was eminently achievable.

The last two patches have been pretty rewarding, suspiciously so for someone with my history with the game.

Are we seeing a change in WG practice with respect to providing good incentives?

Doubtful. That said, WG are not idiots; I imagine they use increased generosity (or otherwise) according to what their sales/participation numbers are telling them they should do.

Gosh, when we don't get "stuff" we complain and when we do get "stuff" we are suspicious...  That's the game we play.

If I were to guess, our host see's the numbers and is attempting to slow the losses.   They don't want to but.......here we are - a stalled, mature game population.

I simply don't have any faith they will "ever see the value of Customer First" thoughts....  They'd need to completely change their staff and policies.

I figure it is similar to "supply and demand" phenomena & principles.
If a Battle Pass offers rewards that players feel attracted to, then players will purchase the extra level of the Battle Pass.
If a Battle Pass doesn't offer rewards that a player feels are worthwhile, then the player won't spend doubloons/cash on the extra level.

So, WG/WOWs is adjusting and tweaking the Battle Pass rewards according to their spread-sheet numbers for player participation (in the Battle Pass) and in coordination with the themed events going on in-game (on an Update by Update basis, based upon my observations).

I've spent money on some Battle Passes, and didn't spend money on others.
Money talks, and WOWs sales & marketing departments are listening.

they are doing casino tricks.

Give people free stuff, they get something, so they get hooked on getting more, so you spend even more then they gave you 😄

Meanwhile I'm here saying "Hey, ten premium crates for trivial amounts of daily play! Cool!"

As for the rest, que sera sera.

I don't know ... looking at the BP was not enough to persuade me to play more than 1-2 evenings this patch so far ...

I don't think they are generous. They are more like throwing out something to see if they will encourage people to play more.

The Java Sea tokens mission are generous IF you don't have Perth yet, but for me (got it last Christmas as a drop from free Santa crate) I can only choose between with 6 small lootboxes or credits.

The battle pass rewards is like a bell curve, once you get over with level 20 (those journey of the west premium container), you will only get 2 lootbox crate for every 75 point.

One of the down side of the new battle pass system is currently I am spending 1 or 2 blue XP booster (for regrinding Aki line) and running premium days, I only need to finish off 2000bxp BP mission 10 times each week, and collect most of the 37500xp container every day. There is not much reason to play more beyond that point as the BP reward is small. If I don't feel fun and engaging enough I may just grind 2, get the 2000bxp BP mission done and call it a day.

Generous?

Depends on RNG…

My ten premium boxes weren’t “flyover territory”…

they were more like “bend over territory.”

Oof.

It is my problem with loot boxes in general. They are shite most of the time.

Well, the expected return on the final reward for the Free BP must be considered good compared with the others. I am more concerned about the rewards 1-19 + postprogression.

Well boo hoo. I didn't get a ship either, despite quite a few people saying they got two. But you don't see me putting on sackcloth and sitting in ashes.

The change from the Battle Pass to the new Event Pass format is very informative as to WG’s intentions. Not only do we now have a graduated system of progression (with later levels requiring more points and post-progression being very point intensive), but the daily point rewards are also set up similarly, offering much more generous rewards at the beginning (the first two ten point missions) and requiring much more grind for the remaining five daily points.

Taken together, it’s pretty obvious WG has switched from a strategy of incentivizing dedicated longtime players to play lots of battles to one that casts a wider net, encouraging more regular casual play from a larger number of players. It’s pretty easy to max out the Event Pass with only a few games a day, and the lackluster post-progression rewards combined with the huge increase in the grind don’t encourage much more than that.

I played a little less this patch because I was a bit burnt on Christmas and I thought, geez I'm not going to finish this event pass. Then next thing I realise I've got the 1o premiums and there was over two weeks left on the timer. Couldn't believe it. So I still took it easy with some minor exceptions of grinding brawls a few days a week.

Then it figures a slow week before the patch and I get a bunch of premium time. Sweet but the timing was off.

And you don’t see me misjudging and misrepresenting the emotional state of others. Stick to something you’re good at, like singing odes and penning love sonnets to WG.

I find it quite odd that the same list of people are always getting screwed over they never get anything. Feel bad for you guys!

I'm still waiting on the I-401, the Surcouf and several others to be introduced as premium submarines.  🙂

I have been thinking that this season has been a bit lean as far as post event winnings are concerned. 75 points for every post completion level means 1 level every 3-4 days, IIRC correctly I was getting 1 level every day in previous battle passes.

If getting a crap draw in some free boxes has you feeling emotional, you need to have a look in the mirror.

Perth acquired.

With multiple days to spare.

I'm cautiously optimistic about how these events are going lately.

Recently while responding to another thread I had a realisation about the BattlePass which I mentioned in passing.

Originally we had the Daily/Monthly missions with the attendant rewards for completing them. On top of that when there was an event, there were missions for that, with rewards.

Then the BattlePass was brought in to take the place of the Daily/Monthly missions.

And NOW the events take the place of the BattlePass.

We'd have to do a study to ascertain if there was a nerf or not ... look at the rewards from several months for daily quests, etc and event quests and total them up. Then we could average it to get a 'normal' month. Then compare them to what we get now.

I can't think of any easy way to get the data necessary, but if I had to bet, I'd bet that the results would show fewer rewards for more missions.

Odd, indeed.  In the military we always had a batch of individuals that complained about getting screwed at every turn.  Everyone certainly got their fair share of screwings, but these people were apparently the target of much more screwing.

In my last career, we also had vocal individuals who complained constantly about unfair treatment.

If only "the man" would take his proverbial thumb off those poor people so they could change their daily outlook.  The victimization they suffer must be oppressive.
