Long story short, if you get the Megadeth captain mission chain from WoWs blog and Steam (free DLC) they stack.

I'm glad WG has made Dave Mustaine a free to obtain commander. I like Megadeth, and their album Dystopia is a big favorite of mine.

Did I understand this correctly: there is no other way to get a hold of the Rattlehead other than the 10k dub bundle?

On completing the mission, you can choose either Mustaine OR Rattlehead as a 6 point captain.  Want them both? ==> doubloons

I'm sorry, I should have specified: is there no other way to get hold of the T5 Marblehead clone Rattlehead other than the 10k dub bundle?

No, just the captain is available via mission, and even that was kinda supposed to be either-or. The ship is for doubloons only.

10,000 dubs for a T5 ship  $52:80 CND  forget it even though i used to listen to a bit of megadeath way back in the day

The 10,000 doubloon bundle includes One ship, the Megadeth version of Marblehead, AND two Commanders with 12 skill points each.
The Commanders are available separately for 3,500 doubloons.
