Research Bureau 101 - How to Use and Maximize Its Potential

The Research Bureau (RB) in World of Warships is a special tab within the Armory that displays once a player has researched five Tier 10 tech tree ships.  Once this feature is unlocked, a player can access RB ships, unique upgrades, and signals.  Once you have researched five tech tree Tier 10 ships, a one-time reward of 10,000 Research Points will be awarded to you.  These Research Points are a special resource that can be exchanged in the Research Bureau section of the Armory.

So now what do I do --

Now, you can begin to earn additional RB points.  The first step is resetting a branch of the tech tree line.  The most common and economically beneficial for the player is the Harugumo line in the IJN destroyer branches.  You can, of course, choose other lines, too, but you will be faced with additional costs to do so.  Harugumo presents the best overall value for a reset.

After the reset, the exact number of Research Points earned will depend on each ship's tier. You could earn as much as 10,200 RB points.  Each tier represents a different value:

  • 200 RB points for the first victory playing a Tier V ship
  • 500 RB points for the first victory playing a Tier VI ship
  • 500 RB points for the first victory playing a Tier VII ship
  • 1,500 RB points for the first victory playing a Tier VIII ship
  • 1,500 RB points for the first victory playing a Tier IX ship
  • 6,000 RB points for the first victory playing a Tier X ship

Please note that resetting a branch of aircraft carriers or submarines will earn up to 8,000 Research Points.

(Researching a branch of aircraft carriers or submarines requires about 20 percent less XP than other ship branches)

  • 500 RB points for the first victory playing a Tier VI aircraft carrier or submarine
  • 1,500 RB points for the first victory playing a Tier VIII aircraft carrier or submarine
  • 6,000 RB points for the first victory playing a Tier X aircraft carrier or submarine

(Important to remember, for submarines, this calculation does not take into account the Research Points that can be additionally earned from unlocking the Tier V–VI destroyers linked to the branch)

One thing that is important to remember is that when you reset a line, the ships and modules are sold for half of their cost.  All earned XP is transferred to the first ship of the branch.  Any camouflages, flags, signals, and economic bonuses are demounted and sent to your inventory, and any upgrades are demounted free of charge and transferred to your inventory too.   Ship Commanders are sent to the Reserve without losing their specializations for the ship they were trained/assigned to.  (Recall Commander will not work once you regain your ship, so remember what Commander goes with each ship).

Your first venture into resetting a line --

At first, resetting a line may seem a little intimidating.  Really, it is not that difficult, and there are a few tricks available to make it a little easier and less of a challenge.  Here are some resources, which we encourage you to watch whether you are new to the RB or somewhat still a novice and want additional tips.

Buzz and Woody camos too. (You obviously meant "Any")

You might want to stress that camouflages are demounted and placed in inventory. "Removed" has the smell of permanence and might create misunderstandings. "Modules" probably warrants qualification, e.g. "Researchable modules".

To be more precise: when you get the ship back, it will no longer remember which commander it had - i.e. "Recall Commander" will not work - but the commander still remembers how to drive his ship. I had a moment of brief panic when I first encountered that!
