Ever wonder about the Pancake?

Ever wonder what could have been had the XF5U gotten beyond prototype?

For an R/C plane, it flies pretty good.

It was actually a rather interesting design.
And a version of it did fly, just not the XF5U

The F-117 can fly, thanks to computers helping to solve its inherent aerodynamic instability.

In comparison the "Flying Pancake" isn't all that different in principle.  There are some legitimate issues, though, when compared with the planes that were designed during that era and which made it beyond the prototype stage of development.

Indeed, alot of things were tried and experimented with, including the Flying Wing

 

 

Sadly that Wing is no longer with us.

Sadly that Wing is no longer with us.

The Germans had one that worked !

I remember it being available in one of the variations of Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator.  🙂 
Few were actually made though, and for various reasons they didn't turn the tide of WW-II.
