As this was such a cause for confusion and a mess last update thought I would post this so people can have an easier time of it. To turn the lights red/green...

  • Light 1
    • Available now - light was red the day the update dropped - no opt in needed
    • Complete the 1st daily Battlepass mission (NOT Personal Challenges) for 300 BXP to turn the light green
  • Light 2
  • Light 3
    • Not available yet - this is listed under the Halloween Operations section but doesn't give any specific details so we don't know what daily mission it means (Battlepass or a Halloween Operations daily mission? - is it opt in or automatic?) we only know the basic requirement - The Halloween Operations event becomes available 2 weeks after update day and the light can be/will turn red then
    • Complete a daily combat mission to turn the light green
  • Light 4
    • Not available yet - but we know it is the Battle of Empress Augusta Bay mission chain (no date given) so watch for the article to opt in (if opt in needed) to turn the light red
    • Complete the 1st mission of the chain (requirements unknown at this time) to turn the light green
  • Light 5
    • Not available yet - but we know it will be tied to the upcoming HEROES OF MIGHT AND MAGIC III event (no date given) - it says there will be a dedicated article and I assume that is where the mission opt in will be (if required) that turns the light red
    • Complete the 1st mission of the chain (requirements unknown at this time) to turn the light green

So we know a lot more on this one than last update. Definitely better communicated. I will do my best to update this OP once the other 3 become available and we know what the specific requirements will be. But this should help people have an idea what to watch for and do.

Hope it helps.

Only WG can create a fun and engaging event that is so confusing it takes half the patch cycle for the player base to actually understand it.

It is getting to the point I am ignoring WG's narrative on what they would like use to do in matches. It it's not clear, goodbye. I play WoWS on what I want to do with my friends.

All that for two loot crates?

LOL

They are silly.

Yeah sometimes what they ask us to do is a flat out joke. The Spanish Cruiser 1st mission is 20K BXP. Just that is too much ask for a pair of tactical crates let alone it only being one of 5 things we have to do.

WG must be really lacking in data to examine how Spanish cruisers perform on the live server. There was another mission in the last update that was restricted to Spanish cruisers only: https://worldofwarships.com/en/news/history/a-look-through-time-spanish-cruisers/

Just another piece of evidence that much of WG's internal "testing" is useless. Even all the massive incentives offered for using the PTS are not sufficient to attract people to play a statistically significant amount of matches. Which also explains why WG waits so long to balance clearly overperforming or underperforming ships - they are extra cautious after the Giulio Cesare debacle so they need to collect tons of cases before making a change.

My opinion is that there were a lot of design decisions that the devs made in development that have limited the overall appeal of the new Spanish cruisers.

A lot of the ships were never built. This true for a lot of lines and doesn’t matter much to me personally, but it does to some players. Add to this the fact that the naval forces of Spain were not exactly major players in most of the major conflicts of the time period this game covers and it wouldn’t surprise me if there is a significant fraction of the playerbase that isn’t really interested in the line without even taking into account the gameplay.

The line is characterized by their combat instructions, just like the Pan-American cruiser line. In the case of these ships it isn’t as integral to the ship’s play as the aforementioned line (which have crippling consumable cooldowns if it isn’t used), but the burst-fire mechanic does require proper management to get the best out the ships. The presence of this “funny button” and/or the higher skill ceiling its inclusion entails has likely turned some players off.

WG also made the decision a while back to implement Spain as a new nation after rolling a lot of minor navies into the “European” nation. Spain being independent of Europe means that these cruisers require investment in new captains. Since the skill rework CXP has become the primary progression bottleneck/grind goal for a lot of players, so I can see a lot of players not wanting to invest the resources in these ships when combined with the factors listed above.

Folks are missing out then. Spanish cruisers are a top contender of "best line added to the game" this year. Fast, comfortable gunnery, but not excessively OP. The only critique some might have is that giving the T7 and T8 heals is accelerating the problem of power creep, but I would counter that by saying that most of the cruisers WG has added since 2020 have heals at tiers lower than T9, so these new Spanish ships are right in line with the new precedent.

As for captain skills, sure it could be a bottleneck, but like other heavy cruiser lines they are not too dependent on certain must-pick skills. A 10-pointer with adrenaline rush and concealment works just fine. (As compared to destroyers where the first 10 points are essentially a tax, or light cruisers that must use IFHE to be even relevant)

  • 3 weeks later...

Finally finished the bxp mission to turn the final light green.  It opens a mission to obtain 700k dmg to other ships.  hopefully the reward is not more cxp, over 9 million of that stuff already.
