New Dutch light cruiser line in Early access in coming patch

Being a somewhat of a Leg Mod Golden Leeuw connoisseur I do have some interest in what this line will bring. That said I also hate the direction WG is pushing the game where we soon will have more planes on the map than we have ships. Also getting struck over and over and over by things you will never see and usually have fook all counter to.

T10 Utrecht has 30 sec reload on 2 airstrikes, but we also have to consider the new Unique Commander in testing right now where you could get a 3:rd airstrike (just like Leg mod Golden) after 50 bomb hits and with even faster reload then 30 sec after 40 000 damage done..................... Food for thought.

I'm struggling to get excited about these new cruisers, although I'll probably add them to my port at some point (completism CDO strikes again); I don't particularly get on with this whole air strike business, but that's a 'me' thing. Could be worse though: could be more bleedin' submarines!

I wonder if I'm not unique in being 'meh' apropos the Dutch so far: presumably, most people will have been playing the game as heavily as they ever do recently (snowflakes etc.), and won't be averse to dialling it back a bit; it would make sense to release a weaker/less popular line when people might be playing less anyway?

I don't know. Maybe WoWP earned Wedgie some money or maybe not. Certainly, nothing like they reaped from WoT(especially) & WoWS.

...I didn't care for Dutch CA line & had no interest what-so-ever in Pan-Am BB's, even selling off Ipiranga.

Basically. I have all the ships I would care for, and am not interested in just filler content of an powercreeper line that's stupid to play and stupid to play against. Instead I long for return of the old lines, such as US CA's who's basic design has stood the test of time and gameplay changes quite well due to being well rounded and put together in their gameplay implemention.

 

If I want to que in Airstrikes, I play Komissar/Chikuma II or even the 1-strike volley CV's like Pobeda/Yorktown. Much more exiting and interactive that Dutch Grid-Cordinate carpet bombletting

Well, if you were in the habit of doing Naval Battles, you wouldn't be selling them.

Maybe that's the thing. They already combined the servers because of dropping playernumbers. Maybe they also will combine all their games into one? Planes, Tanks and Ships doing battle....

With some CVs, their squadron size has us there already.

I’m intrigued that we are getting a light cruiser line armed with German 128mm guns - which have 32mm base HE penetration and decent fire-starting ability. I’m not a huge fan of the Dutch airstrike mechanic personally (I always find myself wishing my Dutch ships had torps instead), but I don’t find it terribly onerous to play against either.

I like the route WG has gone here vs. Lesta’s. We’re overdue for another German tech tree line, and releasing Dutch cruisers with these characteristics indicates we likely won’t be getting a 128mm-armed German CL line. I have my fingers crossed that the devs are cooking up a Panzerschiffe line (and it won’t be built around secondaries).

If done properly, that could be a wonderful "combined arms" game mode.

Just log-in to one's normal account on WOT or WOWs or WOP, and then select the "combined arms" mode, which will shunt your participation to a different server which has the programming and the maps for large teams to perform amphibious assaults and take control of the map by island-hopping while being supported by naval gunfire and aerial fighter cover and aerial close-air-support against tanks and fortifications.

Might have to increase the time of the battle to 30 minutes or perhaps longer.  

I feel such a mode has epic potential.  

We already have LST ships from the D-Day event.  Load them up with Tanks and have them storm the beaches while being escorted.  🙂 
Meanwhile the "other team" is doing the same from the other side of the map.  
Or we could simply have one big island and the teams hit it from opposite sides?  
I'm brainstorming.  Plenty of details to be worked out in the future, eh?

I saw a couple of the CCs playing them this afternoon. There's a premium (Vrijheid) coming for this line with a reload time as short as 25.5 seconds (with a standard test captain), albeit with a significantly shortened airstrike range (9km-ish IIRC?). That one could get REALLY spicy with Helfrich at full strength.

But isn't that like "Battlefield 3" or maybe 4?! Then I would much rather play BF that hoping for WG to make spaghetti coding enough for this Clustefook.

I heard about that but 9 km feels really hard in this campy meta, then you really need for red BBs to push up on you.

I think I much rather try the Utrecht with 3 strikes and probably 22-25 sec reload with this new captain.

Yes.  There would be a lot of similarities.
Especially if players re-spawned instead of getting sent back to Port/Motor-Pool/Airfield once their vehicle is destroyed.

With 50 to 100 players per "side", the team rosters could offer quite an experience.

BTW .... WG is actually fixing the Smoke timer bug .... it just took them half a year or something. But still nice they finally got to it.

I'm curious: why does anyone sell anything above T5 these days (especially given that we're in snowflake season)? Are credits and port slots in such terribly short supply?

Each to their own, and all that, but with the way snowflakes work at the moment, you just play something else and mop up the rewards from whatever clunkers you have as port queens...

Credits and captain experience limits.

I'm on the first grind for most lines and I usually just move the captain to the next ship...which means I sell the lower tier ship.

The snowflake rewards aren't THAT valuable that I should just leave credits sunk in port queens.

Maybe later, once I have several 21 points captains and I am swimming in free captain XP, I'll think differently.

Yeah, I am pretty apathetic about the Dutch ships in WOWS overall (no offense to those who like them or are from the Netherlands - Gouden Leeuw is decent enough I guess) and I have like zero interest in the upcoming Dutch CL's. I will do them as I do all lines in game to T10 but only for flakes. They will sit pretty much untouched other than MAYBE coming out for a mission or NB or something and most likely I will use bonus flakes on them during flake events vs playing them.

I foresee a line of D7P's incoming and I hate that thing (Almirante Grau too). No interest in massive amounts of daka with ity bity damage each pew pew pew LOL. Also, like you, the air strike gimmick thing for the Dutch doesn't do much for me. But I am sure some will love them so for them it is good I guess. I have enough ships I enjoy playing that I am glad some lines don't interesting me. Makes it less stressful deciding what to play LOL.

I got like 194,000 Coal and 24,000 Steel at Christmas from flakes. 😎

FWIW - and this doesn't help with credits - you can move the captain, and keep the ship sans captain (and play it in Coop without said captain) for later snowflakes.

Also, as you probably know, whenever you sell something you're only getting half of the credits you paid back again - that's a lot of silver down the tube, especially at higher tiers.
