Hello, this is my first post on this forum, and as previously stated I want a brawler that is fun in Ops/Asymm for coal (I have enough to get any tier 9 except the black). I enjoy secondaries and brawling and already have the Scharnhorst 43 and have a ton of fun in it. I'm considering Napoli, Iwami and Pommern.

If you know a lot about them please help me choose,

Thank you

At tier 9 the champion is Pommern with Gunther Lutgens!  When his Unique rate-of-fire boost kicks in, you'll enjoy it and the proceeds from the tier 9 boost and cost reduction.   Also having good secondaries is kind of critical if you get caught by the bad dd's... you'll have to be able to fend them off with secondaries and Iwami's secondaries aren't accurate enough for that.

Lutgens is my Schlieffen commander (for his TT ship) and has IFHE to make the 105's murderous and that translates to the Pommern and Scharnhorst as well.

I'm a big fan of the synergies in the German premium line with Lutgens and the other special commanders... to me it's the most effective lineup of ships and commander skills.

Welcome to the forum, where mostly courteous and lively debate abounds!

Forgot to say it, but Napoli is a GREAT ship, but it isn't a BB and it isn't tier 9 so it really doesn't compare to the other two you mentioned for ops and asymmetric.

Cruisers can be RNG situational in those scenarios and more prone to both fantastic and horrible results since they can be cross-map-clapped much easier than other options!

Thanks a lot for the help. I'm looking forward to trying the Pommern out then.

Just played with my Scharnhorst and slaughtered the entire enemy team in Asymmetric with it

It is worth waiting for more feedback because there are a lot of great players and viewpoints here... others may have a take you might find more appealing... some may even... *gag*  suggest... I can't say it...  the pre-sunk things...

I see, I'll wait until I decide what ship I get. I didn't buy anything yet

Welcome to DevStrike and congrats on your first post (and topic).

Of the ships you're interested in (Napoli, Iwami and Pommern), I feel it is a coin-toss between the Napoli and the Iwami.

~The Iwami has guns and torpedoes with a longer range.  And she's reasonably "tanky" (but not unsinkable).  She can even wiggle oaky (for a Battleship).

~The Napoli has a lively play-style and decent guns, sec-bat guns and torpedoes, *if* the opponents are within range.
Some Scenario Operations involve firing at targets which are at long range.
Also the Napoli's armor isn't bad - for a Cruiser.  That said, she's not a Battleship.
The Napoli relies upon a player's intuition and instincts alot, because she does not have Hydro-acoustic Search or Radar to detect opponents.

~The Pommern is a "popular" choice.  The height of her popularity, in my gut-feelings opinion, was before the Iwami was introduced to the game.
Bad choice?  No.  I have all three ships (and a handful more) being discussed here.
The Pommern doesn't turn very well and her torpedoes are short-ranged.
Her guns have "German dispersion".  Enough said about that.
The secondary-battery guns have an excellent range, though.

Again, I have all three ships.  I feel the Napoli will be more fun in Co-op and Asymmetric battles.  I feel the Iwami is a better choice in Scenario Operations.
I prefer the Iwami over the Pommern.
The Pommern is a solid choice, and a popular one.  But, it is simply my feeling and prefernce that the Iwami is better than the Pommern by a slight margin.

Hope that helps.  Good luck in your ship shopping.  🙂

Currently there is only one Scenario Operation which involves playing a Submarine.
And, it would need a division of Submarines to access it (if it is not "on hiatus"?)

Therefore, suggesting a Submarine would not be in the Original Poster's best interest.

If you do not have Gunther Lutjens yet, I suggest you get him first.

As for the ship, Pommern is a popular choice; but I would suggest you get the tech tree Tier IX Rupprecht and spend the coal on Napoli. Rupprecht is much more nimble than Pommern, and the firing angles are better.

I love brawling. I love tanky.

I do not love Pommern.

Haven't picked it up myself, but I was never scared of them in tier 9 ranked while sailing my Prinz Ruppercht.

As for your question, the absolute monster that is Napoli is what you want. Angled, its known as battleship Napoli becauses its so tanky. Secondaries some of highest hitting dpm of any ship in the game. Torps. Good guns. Smoke generator at full speed. Its a beast.

Please remember if you go this route to sit in smoke far away from any camp and farm BB's only. Do absolutely nothing DD like, don't even think about caps, or spotting, or shooting other dd's. Also make sure to save all your health in a loss for the next match. That's peak Sherman game play.
