Frostbow Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 (edited) The New Year is just around the corner, and I thought of looking back at the last 12 months. 2024 has been my best year so far in World of Warships. It was all about the fun and the free. Fun, because of Operations. The D-Day event was amazing. I had a lot of fun playing my Atlanta and West Virginia 1944. Fighting S-Boats that were a pain to destroy, that can do supersonic runs, was hilarious. The 2nd part of the event, which was all about playing a variety of German destroyers, was a welcome change of pace, and was even more fun. It made the entire event balanced in terms of experience. What was even more amazing was the fact that there were 2-3 days of unusually over generous Base XP that Wargaming allowed players to farm. And farm the player base did! As usual, the art and music was unquestionably top notch. Fun, challenging, and rewarding all at the same time. I farmed at least 50,000,000 credits and more than 3,000,000 Elite Commander XP just by using Green Boosters in the mode alone. The Star Trek event was the futuristic flavor of Operations. New mechanics, new weapons, new hulls, and dynamic gameplay made for a lot of fun! Various options and configurations allowed for mechanics that I feel might be introduced to the live server later on, such as secondaries that can reach 19-20km. LOL! Getting at least 100 citadel hits or 1,000,000 damage became a worthwhile goal. Best of all, Wargaming did not reduce XP and other metrics by half. Part 3 of the event, Queen's Rage, was probably the best of the 3-part event—if you camp, you'll have to contend with orbital bombardment. If you over-extend, you'll have to contend with numerous waves of bots. If you use your shield prematurely, you'll soon find your health pool wiped out. Both themed Operations were fun, but unfortunately they were temporary. Fortunately, and this is probably the best part, has been high tier Operations. No longer is Operations limited to Tier VIII. Now, I can grind/regrind Tier VI → Tier X exclusively in Operations, and do it way faster than in Co-op or in Random Battles. Kudos to Wargaming for that. Free, because of the Wisconsin (and a few other items). Tier X Wisconsin. It was free, thankfully, from the 2023 New Year's Certificates I exchanged for Mega containers that dropped the West Virginia '44. There's Almirante Quirante also, but I already forgot about it. LOL There were other items that dropped, such as the themed permanent camo for my Petropavlosk and Kiev, all from the free Voyage containers earned during the D-Day event. Then there is the insanely overpriced Tier X Rhode Island that I got absolutely free from the Festive Certificates I exchanged for Mega containers. I got other equally overpriced ships for free, such as the Tsurugi and the Victoria, from the regular Santa containers from the free track of the Event Pass. 2025 looks interesting. I'm curious about Operations with Flagships, and how I can get the best returns from it. I hope Wargaming will bring back themed Operations, or introduce new ones. Happy New Year! Itwastuesday Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 (edited) 2024 I have learned that : - US BB guns are the best, specifically Montana guns because they dive into all the submarine citadels (or so it seems) - Every triangle must fight the triangle mafia war and there's no escape. Yamagiri torps are for yoloing destroyers. Yamagiri stealth is for jumping on destroyers. The increased gun dpm and occasional burst for the same thing. Want to do something else? You can't. Unless you play Khabarovsk. - Speaking of Khabarovsk, it's the best. Not because it's overpowered or good at triangle mafia things, but because it ignores everything annoying about playing the game. Just don't get shot at by Yoshino, the only true menace to Khabarovsk. - Not all cruisers suck and the low average damage per game the class does across skill brackets compares to BB doesn't mean dpm can't be effective, rather what matters is how fast and early a target goes down. Still think the class is weakest, annoying to play and the long range slow burn farmers are useless. - Svea is absolutely brilliant tho - Always all in on the win from the get-go, ignore negative thoughts caused by matchmaking. Play more aggressive. Especially on cruiser. Determining what action is necessary for the win needs work tho. - British BB heal is disgusting and the ships generate so much rage that you can win basically by trolling the enemy team into beelining for you. But you can't die. - Graf Zeppelin sucks and for a reason I wouldn't have thought exists. The planes don't turn. - Forrest Sherman and Harugumo nearly always cause an autoloss for the flank in a way no other DD does. 2025, CV rework maybe? New superships? But it is no match to Yamato's LOLPEN AP shells. Edited December 31, 2024 by Frostbow

Admiral_Karasu Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 The D-Day event was good, I agree. I think we also got through this year without the dark clouds of any major rework, which is definitely a plus. I also liked the WoWS Christmas event, well, the Christmas tree concept needs a bit of tinkering, but otherwise I think WG did rather well this year. 3

Use longer/wider approaches and begin the attack-run from farther away. Slowing down the planes can help them turn. But, yeah, other ship's planes turn better. 1

Time Kaga spent on doing twice as much as you.

The planes can perform attacks, but aren't famous for inflicting a lot of damge (compared with other CV's planes). Me? I just accept "what is", in this case. 🙂

In my books, 2024 is the year Operations really shined in World of Warships. The amount of detail both operations offered is a notch higher compared to the past themed operations such as the ducky event. And the momentum keeps getting stronger, as we are going to have Operations with Flagships in January 2025! 1
