Thoughts on the port Christmas Tree

Got to say I am not a fan of how WG did the Christmas Tree thing. At 1st I thought it was kind of cool and something new and unique. I was all for it when it 1st was announced. But then I saw how they implemented it, and made it pure RNG, and as a result it has soured me.

If they did it like collections where duplicate pieces could be traded in to get needed ones I would be ok with it. But the system they have where you wrack up duplicates that do absolutely nothing is just stupid frankly.

There are 10 days left and I STILL need:

  • 1X Bulb
  • 1X Garland
  • 3X Tree Toppers
  • 2X Figures

The chances of me finishing are very slim with the drop rate as bad as it is. I actually JUST got a new Garland with the last piece I could get today and that is the 1st new piece in like a week. I have 30+ duplicates sitting there doing nothing. I don't understand their thinking on this?

Similar thread on reddit which lead me to make this here. Very few people have finished it, or will be able to in the time left, over there. I kind of like collecting all the various commemorative flags WG offers up but it looks like I will fail on this despite playing more than enough to have done so.

They should have made this like collections where duplicates can be traded for new pieces. Making the drops all RNG, and giving duplicates that serve no purpose, was very short sighted IMO.

Just a small vent.

What happens if you get all the ornaments?  Meanwhile, it's getting tedious switching back to my ocean port after every new ornament.

Well, fortunately, the rewards of completing the tree are modest enough that missing out isn’t going to be a monster disappointment.

I kind of like the port this time around. I particularly like the parade of boats that motors through every half hour or so.

I also like that they didn’t hose up an existing port. Last year, they jacked up my Fjords port for two events in a row. Now, when I want to see a new ship in a good light and the perpetual twilight of the Christmas port doesn’t cut it, I can take it to my trusty Fjord, and look it over in the clear light of day, & size up camos & stuff.

Very annoying with all the duplicates. I love the port and the idea here but really poorly implemented don't know why they did it this way.

I finished my Tree this AM...  Didn't do anything special.  Got three "gifts" and I don't remember what they were.  I am sure what they were are in the instructions.  (Three crates,  a flag  and,  a camo..)

Pure RNG.  Like all of this game, RNG...........

This is just like the "Passo de Patria" collection were I didn't finish it;   because, all was getting were duplicates and then, it ended !  And, there was no way to finish it....

So, I am sure I am not alone in getting [pick a word that fits your mood @!]

Same here. I really like the concept, but the implementation leaves a lot to be desired. Especially when it’s possible to play almost every single day and still not complete it (if you’re unlucky you could take up to 41 days to complete it, with 42 days in the patch). Making it completely RNG with no way to trade your duplicates like normal collections means I’m much less interested in it if I can’t play every single day. (And even the RNG seems odd, with the number of people I’ve seen getting tons of duplicates of just one or two of the same ornament.)

I only need one left so there’s still a chance I could complete it in the next week and a bit. But I was also sitting on 30 for a while and now sitting on 31 for most of this week.

It’s a small sample size, but between all of my discords, this forum, and the wows subreddit, I think I’ve seen two or three people at most complete the entire collection so far. Maybe they got luckier with non duplicates, or maybe they just didn’t miss a single day (I know I’ve missed one so far). But I’d have expected to see more people completing it by now if everything’s completely random.

If you get all 32, you get a linkable new year sky permacamo, a flag, and 3 coal crates

With a task setup like this and rewards like that, maybe the goal never was completion; perhaps, rather, the goal was driving “engagement,” discussion on Discord, Reddit, forums.

I like the idea of the tree but it is getting old.  I have been doing the needed 7 games every day but have been stuck on 31 of the needed 32 ornaments for almost a week now.  Just keep getting dups now.

I tend to agree with the general sentiment: the tree is a nice idea, but I worked out almost immediately that the rewards were uninspiring, in relation to the effort needed, so I've been largely ignoring it...

All it needed was exchangeable duplicates.

Are you serious? This Christmas Tree and the Port, is one of the best, if not the best so far, when it comes to Christmas Season in the game. The sheer amount of details Wargaming put in the implementation of the port is totally amazing and beautiful.

RNG is part and parcel of the game. You have more stuff on Christmas Tree than many, and letting it sour you does not look good. Why even get affected by pixels that may arrive within ten (10) days? And if the completionist within you is not satisfied, you can always switch to a different port. LOL!

It's nice to look at ect but I've been playing everyday and still was ways away to complete having many duplicates. You would think the RNG would not be so bad but it is for me. Why give us something that many who play daily wont complete, it just frustrates players.

Exactly. The goal never was completion. This has been all about engagement and whatever marketing noise WG have in mind. To be affected by the way Wargaming has implemented the ornaments of the Christmas Tree gives away the strong impression that one is easily offended by anything.

Same here. I have been ignoring what progress I was able to do, including that of the Dockyard. These past few weeks have been lighter than expected, so I was able to play a bit more games than what I initially thought, given the gatherings, parties, gift giving, etc. FWIW, this is how my Christmas Tree looks like.

I like it, and even if I may not be able to complete it, it is fine. The mere sight of that Christmas Tree is enough to make me happy.

On a related note, I discovered that if I choose the Panda, the color of the fireworks will be of warm colors (light pink?). If I choose Santa, it will be of cooler colors (light blue).

I think the tree was a good idea and a nice touch. Well, except the RNG. It should have been tied to just pure playing.

Well, the WoT tree thing is more complex. I did something, and then I was buying the cat some treats, and.. well, at least I bought a glass tank decoration that took him less than five seconds to drop to the ground and smash.

I used to have a fluffy orange cat that would spend every Christmas season crawling around inside the Christmas tree and knocking off the ornaments one by one. I'm pretty sure that it thought Christmas trees were a big toy we bought for it once a year.

My fat cat squeezes under the tree and just lays there. Occasionally she’ll dart out, spread pine needles on the floor, and then dart back under the tree. Normally she just lounges on the couch but I guess the tree lets her pretend she’s a tiger or something. The dog is not amused with her antics.

Mine is completed.  The rewards for completion are not amazing.  But, I got plenty of free stuff throughout this holiday event so I am not complaining.

I didn't think it was that strange until I got 4 of one ornament that I thought was limited to two. I believe I'm at 27 of 32, I've played at least 2 wins every day so far and a couple of 7 win days. I hope I can finish it.

I have a new orange kitten about nine moths old or so this year. He insists on trying to remove every ornament from the lower 2/3s or so of the tree. I am convinced he does it so I will get up to stop him since as soon as I do he runs across the room to sit by his favorite wand toy and meow for me to play with him.
