Tpaktop2_1 NA Posted December 19, 2024 Posted December 19, 2024 https://worldofwarships.com/en/news/community/holiday-stream-2024/ During today's WoWS EN Twitch stream I learned two new (tier 8 and tier 10) Russian subs are coming (Dev Blog). Also Lord of Droid and Bazinga say you will be sorry if you miss tomorrow's Twitch Stream. Hint's of good gift handouts. The stream will be an hour earlier than usual. It does look good with the amount of stuff WG is giving out to the players this year. I plan to attend. See you there. 4 3

Darlith Posted December 19, 2024 Posted December 19, 2024 Wish their streams were at a better time for me to watch, I'm likely to be out and busy tomorrow. Might catch part of it though. 1

I don’t envy those NA players that live on the west coast, many of whom can’t even catch the NA stream regularly. Edited December 19, 2024 by Nevermore135

Twitch streams that offer "drops" provide a method of gaining "swag" or in-game Twitch missions which provide rewards upon completion. 3. Twitch streams may offer Wargaming codes which can be redeemed for rewards. 4. Twitch streamers may offer contests or raffles during their stream which offer prizes to the winner. Example: I won the Mainz during a raffle on Zeldasauce's Twitch stream. Prizes vary, but free stuff is free stuff. If you don't want to be interactive with the Streamer, you may choose to "lurk" by viewing the stream on your phone's Twitch app or via the Twitch website and lowering the sound volume to a minimal amount (perhaps 1% to 5% volume level). People who aren't interactive, but are viewing the stream, can earn rewards sponsored by WG/WOWs, such as an in-game Twitch mission and/or Twitch Containers which provide a range of rewards which may include Community Tokens. Whether you are an interactive viewer and engaging in chat or are merely lurking, Twitch viewing (even if you're multi-tasking with your "day job" or some other activity) offers an opportunity for earning in-game rewards. Utilizing this opportunity on your own terms probably won't hurt, and there is the potential to "get lucky". 🙂

Just a streaming platform for people who make a living playing games mostly. I only use Twitch to farm the weekly rewards for WoWS. If you "watch" the official channel you get 250 community tokens after one hour. If you watch any of the CC's channels you can get a mission for more tokens (like 400 IIRC) which takes 90 minutes. If you watch for 3 freaking hours, you get a Twitch crate which has some more tokens, signals, and a expendable camo (45k credits for me). You can also get codes for other freebies. Doing that every week and playing on the PTS has allowed me to amass 80k of Community Tokens. I never pay the people streaming much mind but I love to interact with the other players who tuning in. For me it is chat with other Ships players, nothing more. I tend to tune in with my speakers turned off or muted and the video part scrolled all the way to the top so I don't even see what is being broadcast. Never been a fan of watching other people play games unless I am looking for for advice/reviews but even then, I just go to Youtube and hunt down that information. Most times I just tune in, turn off the speakers & monitor, then walk away from the computer. Before I retired and was working nights, I would wake up, tune in, turn everything off and go back to bed. I would wake up and have my goodies. Edited December 20, 2024 by Taylor3006 1

You can count on them being unbalanced monstrosities anyhow. 2

I wonder if the spreadsheet is calling for more subs or if there is (put on tinfoil hat) another plan that WG is doing on purpose? 13 hours ago, mashed68 said: What's the point of twitch? What would such short-ranged communucation be used for? https://www.nature.com/articles/srep40480 Quote Abstract To enable high-speed underwater wireless optical communication (UWOC) in tap-water and seawater environments over long distances, a 450-nm blue GaN laser diode (LD) directly modulated by pre-leveled 16-quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) data was employed to implement its maximal transmission capacity of up to 10 Gbps. The proposed UWOC in tap water provided a maximal allowable communication bit rate increase from 5.2 to 12.4 Gbps with the corresponding underwater transmission distance significantly reduced from 10.2 to 1.7 m, exhibiting a bit rate/distance decaying slope of −0.847 Gbps/m. When conducting the same type of UWOC in seawater, light scattering induced by impurities attenuated the blue laser power, thereby degrading the transmission with a slightly higher decay ratio of 0.941 Gbps/m. The blue LD based UWOC enables a 16-QAM OFDM bit rate of up to 7.2 Gbps for transmission in seawater more than 6.8 m.

Baby steps to much longer-ranged communication. Remember, transatlantic cables were a game-changer in world communications, but the first one took a lot of heartache before it was done (see "How the World was One: The Turbulent History of Global Communications", by Arthur C. Clarke, one of his best non-fiction works.) 2

Optical communication in water faces some serious challenges if we're trying to use it over long distances, based upon my limited understanding of physics and the properties of water in natural environments. I was thinking that "subspace" communication (from Star Trek") would be more efficient. If only I knew what exactly subspace communication was and how it worked? 🙂 Whales have already demonstrated that their "song", using acoustic waves, is efficient for ocean communication. The problem is the "noise" of the environment, from natural and artificial sound production. I'm guessing that discovering a practical means of communication that could easily pass through rock and water (and allow global communication) will remain a scientific pursuit for a while longer. 🙂

As cool as sound is for whales, it would be very slow compared to current solutions if we were trying to mimic it. Though admittedly I am amused by the notion of underwater stations pretty much yelling at each other.
