Christmas tree explained in simple terms...

Edit: Seems I was mistaken about some things...I left them in for context in case others have commented on them & just put [[[  ]]] around them.

 

[[[1st off (& this should clear up most of the confusion)...

There are not 32 different ornaments to collect...just 32 all together...& Many of them will be (& actually are already) duplicates...you only get notified when there is a new option.]]] <--All of that in the triple brackets is wrong...what is right is it's still ongoing & it will obviously take a bit longer than 16 days to collect all the ornament but I'm not sure how much longer (but guessing closer to the end of the update it will get completed).

In each section of the tree there are only 2 variations of decorations to the port...depending on if you have 1 of Olafs ornaments or 1 of Wie's selected in that section...

His traditional European decorations...hers traditional Oriental decorations (well...at least WG's interpretations of those traditions).

Examples:

1- For the ice sculpture it will either be reindeer (I think it looks like elk also but assuming they're supposed to be reindeer per the holiday connection) if you got 1 of Olafs or a dragon if you have one of Wie's in that slot.

(Might have these next 2 below reversed but think it's)...

2- Tree topper gives fireworks...white for olaf & red for wie.

3- gift at bottom of tree gives hot air balloons...all of Olaf's balloons are decorated the same & all of Wie's are the same...

4 & 5...swings & Merry go rounds same depending on whose ornament you have in that section...

Etc.

Rewards: after you get (got at this point for most of us) the 1st 10 you got some swag...premium time & other stuff I forget...but you needed to actually hang the 10 ornaments (1 in each section of the tree) to get that swag...not just collect them.

Eventually most of you all got around to that & got that swag...if you didn't just go hang 1 in each of the 10 slots & get that swag (note...if you select an ornament that is already hanging you un-hang it...so make sure you have an ornament actually hanging in each slot).

There will be a box around the ornament that is hung...if a section does not have a box around any of the ornaments there is no ornament hanging in that section.

You can remove ornaments from 1 section & hang them in another section but if you only have 1 of a certain ornament & it is already hanging in a section you will not be able to hang that ornament in another section without removing it from the section it is in...unless you have duplicates...then you can hang the same ornament in as many different sections as you have duplicates for.

You just need to finish collecting the 32 items [[[(which will occur after the 16th day if you have played at least 7 battles a day since the update dropped)]]]<--Again...triple brackets = wrong]...

Not sure how long it will take...but...to get the other swag...you don't need to hang all 32 because...you can't hang all 32 at once...as there is only 10 slots to hang things.

There's actually 2 of them...the other 1 is hidden behind the tree & you can only see it from the ornament sections in the right side.

But yeah...they are the funnest thing in the port.

My port/tree disagrees. I've played at least seven battles every single day since the update released (except for one day). I only have 25 of 32 ornaments, and the remaining 7 are the ones that I haven't acquired yet. You can only hang 10 ornaments, but you need all 32 unique ones to get the final reward.

Unless WG is doing more A/B reward testing again....

Edit: Just played two battles today, got another duplicate, and I'm still at 25/32. 

Edit 2 (just to further confirm): New ornament after my seventh battle, now at 26/32. So unless WG's doing multiple versions of the tree like they did with the battle pass a while ago, you absolutely need all of the ornaments (which also matches the text in game).

If hat's the case then there should be reports of "completing the Christmas tree collection" by 13~14 December.

And the UI has clearly stated that all 32 varieties of ornaments have to be collected to unlock the final prize.

I read the "if that's the case" part as replying to my comment about WG A/B testing the tree (with some people getting a completion with 32 total ornaments or 32 unique ones). If there were two versions of the tree, there would be some reports of getting the second reward on the 18th day of the patch, which I haven't seen. 

But it could have also been a response to the "just 32 all together" at the start of your original post. The second like would make more sense for that context. (But could still have been replying to and confirming my post)

For some time now i only get duplicates, really frustrating, not sure i will be able to get them all at this rate, this whole christmas tree thing seems quite badly implemented.

You get rewarded two times if i remember correctly, the first time when you have 10 ornaments on your tree (1 Day Premium, 1 Santa Container and 1 Camo), doesn't matter if it's an ornament from Li Wei or Olaf Lundgren (you can combine them and still get the reward) and the second time when you have collected all 32 different types of ornaments (3 More Coal Containers, a Flag and another camo).

That was me for a few days, then the last couple have all been uniques. Just need 1 more now for the full set.

Exactly, you should have gotten the first reward already, check if you have 1 Winter Strands permanent camo, that should confirm it.

What was the swag, if it's port slots I may scream. I got one from a TYL SC, 1 from a Event Pass Gift container and 1 from some mission... all within 30 minutes today. I think WG knows I already have 106 of them, now 109.
