Mikoyan, some advice please

Recommended Posts

Posted

Realized I wont be able to finish all 24 event pass stages(22 atmo) and mildly curious about Teng She, while utterly disappointed with mega satans haul from T10 certificates-no ships, bought the premium pass.

Yummie, got Prince Orange, Dunquerque and Mikoyan from 15 small satans helpers. So all good, I ll manage Dunquerque and Orange, but what one does with Mikoyan?

Some help or info on the ship would be much appreciated, it seems like a glass cannon with 180mm soviet ap at tier5, no armor at all?

Thanks in advance🤟

Loads AP that is devastating at T5 against any broadside (even BBs) and plays it like a glass cannon with 180mm soviet ap and no armor at all.

One does not simply load AP...

For giggles and memes, I've set-up my Mikoyan with a secondary-battery build.
That doesn't mean it is an effective build.  It merely signifies that I wanted to be silly while playing this ship.
Mostly, I simply try to do as much damage as possible with this ship while surrounded by opponents and trying to stay afloat.  🙂

Your Mikoyan can be set-up according to your personal criteria, of course.  🙂

Mikoyan has gotten several buffs since she released, but she's still kinda stuck in the unfortunate position of being 2/3 of a Kirov at the same tier as Kirov- 2/3 the guns, 2/3 the armor (roughly). Which is not to say she can't perform- Soviet 180mm guns are pretty solid- just that you shouldn't expect great things compared to her half-sisters which have 50% more firepower. Play her like Kirov or Molotov, but with an extra scoop of caution because she's even squishier; stay mobile, keep your distance, slap broadsides. Lather, rinse, repeat.

(Don't do that secondary build. I understand doing things for the memes, and I love my silly secondary builds, but Mikoyan has a grand total of two secondaries on each broadside, they're sad little 100mm popguns, and they get no special help accuracy-wise... plus, this paper-thin hull does not support brawling, even in T5. You'd literally be better off trying to secondary build Krispy Kreme.)

If you’re fighting one, you kill them hard and fast with AP and with prejudice.

If you’re in one, you die early, suddenly, and in great pain. Often by surprise. Once you get used to it, the only occasional surprise left is “who,” not “what.”

It's guns though...you pay a lot for them, but they do good things.

Its main guns, while 180mm, reload about 70% slower than the Omaha's guns, which are 152mm. And the Mikoyan has less guns. Also, with the Omaha, you do not have to worry about swinging the turrets around, as it always has at least four guns ready on each side (no need to swing turrets around), and six bow-in or six able to be deployed stern-in without using your rudder to get more guns to bear.

Its citadel, while slightly thicker on the top (~13mm thicker), is about twice as large length-wise (more to hit) as the Omaha's and the side plating of the citadel is much thinner (35mm vs 76mm) than the Omaha's.

So, my advice is to play it like you would the Omaha: VERY CAREFULLY! 🙂

It's the funniest T5 cruiser. Blows up to anything, citadels cruisers across the map and battleships up close. I've driven up to Novorossiysk and hit him with 15k in black box. It's the anti-Spock, Die Fast and Suffer and you make a different hand gesture.

Mikoyan is for when you want to seal club at T5 but have it actually require some skill.

So ... there's like a risk of getting seal clubbed by the seals then? What if the replay will make it into one of Jingles's videos?

Are we seriously worried about reputation in an online meme shooter? Seriously?

The game is silly, and played for fun.

Getting popped in a Mikoyan isn't something to be ashamed of...

Well, no, but then again I'm not a seal clubber. Much.

She's kind of a cross between Omaha and Slava.

If you're making a dedicated build, you might consider Top Grade Gunner, Heavy AP and, given the Tier 5 meta, even Outnumbered.

I have the Agincourt of the Giulio Cesare for that type of game play for better game play results.

Here is my Mikoyan first play video from four years ago in a random battle on the Estuary map. I got to say that WG back then was making these free tier 5 mission ships, just like the Genova,  a waste of time to play in random battles. Now the Mikoyan is in the same tier as the Kirov. The difference between the two is that the Mikoyan turn arc is shorter,  faster rudder shift, has a lower HE fire chance, and a shorter gunnery range. Add the Mikoyan has more armor than the Kirov, but somehow gets citadel more than the Kirov. The gunnery is slower too in RoF than the Kirov. But it has a plane which overall does nothing since the plane aloft time is short, and has a long aircraft cooldown. It short it is a snowflake ship, only good for two times a year for the WG coal gifts. Don't buy this ship with money.

I'm pretty sure I got my Mikoyan early, and without having to pay real money.
That said.  Don't sell her.  She's worth snowflakes and might come back to haunt a player if she is sold (I think?).  😉

For me, the Mikoyan led directly to Riga:

I had thunderously good RNG in that event, with at least two 300-token drops in. That, and buying Bagration and getting its missions for tokens, got me all the way through Riga, its permacamo, and all ships & their permacamos up to that point. The only disappointment was the Riga itself.

Heavy AP

180mm guns do not benefit from this skill. Only guns over 190mm work with it.

it’s also worth mentioning that while her AP has amazing pen, they actually have too much pen at this tier compared to Kirov. Mikoyan will over pen a lot on the glut of thin skinned cruisers at this tier. Kirovs lower pen is actually better against cruisers cause you won’t over pen as much and citadels are more consistent.
