Even more and now TRIPLE buffs to Jinan....!?!

I mean I cant really complain because its one of my favourite ships but it already got buffs to Main battery range before and is already OP A-F ..... so WG is Buffing it....

Good that they try and balance the Supercrusiers a bit. Zao definitely needed some long awaited Love.

Zaō has received various buffs over time, but we continue to hear feedback from players, volunteers, and community contributors to improve her further. Based on your feedback and suggestions how to make her more comfortable to play, we're widening her turret angles and adding the post-launch turning feature to her torpedoes. We will keep a close eye on her combat statistics going forward, as the ship already has solid overall performance.

The amount of progress for fulfilling the new condition has been increased to compensate for the new requirement of direct hits on a target. Hannover and Admiral Ushakov have received additional conditions to complement their gameplay and improve their effectiveness in battle.

Additionally, we have made changes to the Hydroacoustic Search consumable for Hannover and Clausewitz. Although Clausewitz and Hannover perform within tolerances, they fall toward the low end for Superships. We're updating ASW parameters for several ships, matching them better with standard values for ships. We want to highlight here a change very frequently requested by our community for battleships Massachusetts and Musashi. Based on your feedback, we're increasing the range of their Depth Charge Airstrike. This will allow players to be more effective and defend better against Submarines. As a trade-off for this improvement, we're reducing the damage per bomb to keep the ship at a similar balance level, while significantly improving the usefulness of this armament.

Please note that all information in the development blog is preliminary. Announced adjustments and features may change multiple times during testing. The final information will be published on our game's website.

That's huge.

MY CALL:

Admittedly, I think what Zao really needed was 10 degrees added to the rear torp firing angles and 45 degrees to the front rather than the other way around, but I'll take a buff when I'm given it.

I think Novorossiysk is somewhere on the dispersion curve where this change from a very very low sigma to a somewhat higher sigma is going to have a slightly disproportionate effect; i.e. I think she'll shoot much better than the small change would make it appear.

Republique is going to become a monster. So is Champagne.

Hizen's buff is going to make her competitive, rather than just a slightly faster Japanese Minnesota.

The higher tier Italian destroyers also got significantly better.

Tulsa... Hmm. I've always asked myself *what the doodle* is this ship even for, when Salem exists? (I got mine in a Santa crate; I would never have bought her.) This might change things.

The buffs to Split and Katsonis torpedoes are going to make this grind substantially easier for me. Eight seconds is a long time in co-op!

The rest is nice (especially Belfast 43; she might become my Cunningham's road to 21 points).

So this is about the 'balance changes to 30 ships' thing that WG revealed earlier today. Do I need to turn the fan on?

That was a nice move by WG. It's great to see attention paid to some of the older ships that really needed a little TLC.

even WG figured it out that some ships are almost never played.

I cant remember when did I see italian dds in a game.

Righty.

Zao buff nice, dunno if necessary but I like the ship so I'll take it.

Hizen buff puts it at the 3rd highest dpm out of T9 battleships, below Illinois and Marlborough. I guess that's something. Still boring ship. Still rather inaccurate and IIRC the shells aren't too good.

Regolo buffs, also I don't know if it needed one but I'll take it.

Bungobuff, eh, I thought there was a reason it has slow HE shells. So that it doesn't just spam HE with sniper accuracy? Who longed for the glory days of Thunderer spam?

0.1 sigma for republique. Why even bother? Bah.

7km hydro for T11 kriegsmarine. That's intresting. Gotta see how it reaches into some caps.

I noted that changed should have been done to the Renown last year. IMO, still more work to be done. The Renown's belt was mounted higher than the Repulse.  It shows in WoWS. However, the Renown's deck armor was improved in 1936 from 2.5 to 5 inches (127mm). Her armor was also refitted between the wars to deal with diving shells. This is not shown in the game.

Source: Drachinifel Renown video

Prosed VI Renown changes

Main Battery guns parameters changed:
Reload time reduced: 23.5 to 22s.
Shell Ballistics improved. They will now become flatter.
Stock Gun Fire Control System Range increased: 15.8 to 16.3km.
Researchable Gun Fire Control System Range increased: 17.4 to 17.9km.
Turret traverse time decreased: 45 to 30s.

Compare to:
VI Repulse
Main Battery guns parameters:
Reload time: 25s.
Shell Ballistics ??
Gun Fire Control System Range: 19.8
Turret traverse time decreased: 30s.

Still I'll take what they can give. At least WG recognize the need to change the stats for the Renown.

So mass gets double the range with half the damage.....I'll take it.

And did I read correctly, Tulsa gets destroyer dispersion in a heavy cruiser? Wow.

If those buffs to Belfast '43 go through, I might be tempted to scrape the barnacles off and actually play her a bit instead of just looking at her wistfully then picking literally any other T8 CL I own instead.

IIRC, the still unreleased Incheon (tier X PA Buffalo derivative) also has DD dispersion.

Belfast’43 has received so many buffs over the last few years because she was released dreadfully underpowered out of fear of repeating the mistake of the tier VII version. It’s nice to see the ship becoming legitimately competitive.

Also, the buff to Champagne has me cackling with glee. MBRB with French pen/ballistics and battlecruiser dispersion? Someone found the old vodka stash.

What in the vodka fueled minds did WG come up with with those Renown, Split, Katsonis, and Champagne buffs?

Because the devs are still convinced that these ships need to have inferior ASW. They aren’t trying to actually buff the ships in a statistical sense, but are rather simply responding to player feedback and trying to make them more comfortable to play.

One of the biggest frustrations when playing these ships in their current form is the severe lack of agency given to the player in most interactions with submarines. This will allow them to at least feel like they’re doing something.

It's called a "trade-off".  Give something to get something.  Also known as an "exchange".

Personally, I feel that as long as one knew how to use the main-guns, the ASW range was as far as the main-guns could shoot.
High-Explosive projectiles from a battleship are pretty effective on Submarines, and they don't even need to hit.  Splash-damage is good enough.

I was participating in Submarine Testing since the introductory Halloween event.
Battleships didn't have Depth-charge Air-strikes in the early days of testing.

But, as you pointed out, there were some players who were crying about it.  Thus, Depth-charge Air-strikes were invented to placate them.
And now, more range has been provided to further placate the crying players.
Some people aren't satisfied until they get an "I win" button to press.

Few people really study the Detection Mechanics of the game, in my opinion.

I won't be happy until I have the automated ASW gimmick that carriers have, on all my ships.  Subs are annoying to play against. Eight years of learning where to aim guns to hit targets, all gone because of "mechanics".  Getting spammed pinged by bot subs is about as fun as listening to your teenager explain life to you..

The use of aircraft against subs is historical. Dropping bombs on subs from aircraft happened IRL. You know what didn't occur in real life? WW2 era submarines that zipped thru the ocean like speed boats. The USS Texas, not a ship known for its speed, outran a German sub who was trying to torpedo it. One way to balance subs in the game would be to give them their actual real life speeds.
