How can I find out where and when I got a premium ship?

As I was clearing out my last remaining snowflake ships I noticed Congress in my port.  Odd.  I didn't buy it.  I don't think I got it in a Santa container (receiving ships tends to stand out in my memory).  I don't think it was a reward for anything.  I have never played it.

How can I figure out where it came from?

I suppose you could ask Customer Service, via a "ticket".
Might take some time for them to respond.

If the transaction is in your credit-card history (or other form of payment) then perhaps looking at those records may help?

The Massachusetts dropped into my Port a long time ago, after I attended the first Anchors Away Tour aboard the USS Massachusetts and had some nice conversations with a number of nice people.
I figured it was best for me to not look a "gift horse" in the mouth, and to simply be grateful. 
And, yes, I remain grateful of the good experiences of the Anchors Away Tours and of the ship making herself at home in my Port.  🙂

If it was a gift, though...wouldn't I have to accept it first?

I've had a similar experience!

I noticed Borodino appeared in my port, I know for a fact I didn't buy it (never even heard of it!).

Didn't drop from a crate, when I open my crates I watch like a hawk to see what I get.

As @Wolfswetpaws said I'm not gonna question it, I just accept it as a mysterious gift from the gods!

From another player?  Yes, via the Premium Shop if it was gifted through that process.

Another thought occurs to me.
A few months ago, I was viewing a Twitch Streamer's broadcast and won a ship via their stream contest/random-drawing.
It took a number of days, because the process involves manual entering of information from the streamer and via a designated person on the WOWs payroll, but eventually the Mainz arrived in my Port.

For when, you might be able to find that on your wows numbers page. Sometimes it only shows when you first played a battle in the ship, but sometimes it shows when you acquire the ship. And then sometimes it shows well after either one, at least on my list…

If it doesn’t show up there, a support ticket might help (but would probably take a while to get a response because of the holidays).

If it was a gift from another player, yes. But it might have been a reward from a WG (in which case it would usually just get credited to your account) or from a CC giveaway (not sure if that’s credited automatically or issued as a code you have to redeem).
