Tpaktop2_1 NA Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 In these past 6 months: My co-worker quits, leaving me as the one employee. He gave one day notice. My boss gives my a 50% raise after the coworker quits. I notified the Boss I want to retire in two years at age 70. I am told that my boss has cancer. Supposedly recovered? My wife undergoes knee and back surgery. She is fine now. I handle the 2024 elections for my voting precinct. Surprise by the historical vote. Nothing to write here. Don't bother. At Thanksgiving week a customer of mine changes a password on a critical system in a security scan and does not write down the new password. Still working on that problem. My boss is selling the company. My last payday from my current company was Thanksgiving weekend as a W2 employee. The new bosses want me as a 1099 contractor now. New boss wants to hire me for now 1/4 salary as a 1099 contractor. He does not believe I am worth the pay. My old boss goes into the hospital again during the process of selling the company. For what illness? I think cancer again. The executive process of the company is in limbo. Thank goodness I got my expense checks. I filed for SSA retirement during Thanksgiving and got it within 2 weeks of filing. And Christmas is coming. I feel I'm living in a movie. Tell me when its over. I'm looking for not the big W, but the Big R for retirement. I want to be comfortably numb now. I hope 2025 is nothing like this past year. 3 2

I really hope 2025 goes down in history as a year when nothing significant happened. Because I really don't want anything close to what 2024 has been. Save maybe my payout from leaving my job, that was a nice and only highlight. 3

Tpaktop2_1 NA Posted January 7 Author Posted January 7 (edited) Update#2 : I have received official notice that my company of the past 50 years will cease operations on Friday 01/10/2025. Good thing I am into full retirement. What a journey. Edited January 7 by Tpaktop2_1 NA
Snargfargle Posted January 7 Posted January 7 In most states of the US, employees are "at will" hires. This means that, barring a few protected civil rights, your employer can fire you for any, or no reason. Therefore, it makes little sense to remain "loyal" to a company unless you own a significant part of it and have a say in its operations.
