Questions Regarding the Christmas Tree Mini-Event (Decorations)

How many duplicates can a player receive for one particular type of Christmas tree decorations?

While the basic "participation prize" of fully decorating the Christmas tree is a piece of cake, the other related task of "Collecting all Unique Decoration items to receive By the Fireplace flag" has been a head-scratcher.

Besides the demand of actively gaming for the duration of most of, if not all of the entire 6-week New Year event (play at least 7 battles everyday), the other part of the problem is that how would decoration items duplicate. Will there be some sort of cap that would enable active players to get "Fireplace" flag with some guarantee, or in the worst case, all decoration items may have an unlimited number of duplicates?

I tried looking up any information on this earlier but came up blank. If WG has released information on this, it is very well hidden.

There is a discussion on 'tree ornament woes' on WG Discord, but nobody there seemed to know either. Some get duplicates, some don't. There is no response from WG staff in the thread to date.

Some clues have been found regarding the "collection of all 32 unique ornament items" task.

In short: Ornament items that are placed on the top of the tree (8 varieties) and under the tree (6 varieties) will not duplicate. Streamers (10 varieties) will duplicate likely only once. However for ornament items hanging on the tree (8 varieties) they can potentially duplicate 5 times. It is inferred through how slots for ornaments are arranged plus pattern of how already received ornament items reoccur: 6 slots for items hanging on the tree, 2 slots for streamers and only 1 each for the tip and the ground.

This means guaranteed completion would need 8+6+10*2+8*6=82 items, 41 full days of grinding the Christmas Tree task. Though, with randomness and rules of mathematical expectation (it should be possible to calculate the mathematical expected value of the most likely number of ornament items received randomly to complete the collection, assuming drops are random, though as I dropped Sciences and picked Liberal Arts when in High School, unfortunately I cannot have it done by myself) in action, it is possible that players (with enough activeness as a prerequisite) may complete the collection grind for all 32 varieties before/without spending all 41 days of playing 7 battles every day that would guarantee completion. Though this may still be a bad news for many who hasn't realized that the ornament items may duplicate before (and in turn missed too many opportunities), or being prevented from grinding on a daily basis due to real life constraints.

2- I have multiple duplicates, and many empty slots where I do not have ornaments yet; is there a mechanism for exchanging duplicates ? I have been getting 2x ornaments since the start and Ill never finish the chance to finish it , chances are at least some of teh spots will not be filed in time

 

What can we/ i do ?

  Okay, I hadn't seen this screen yet.  So I looked, and found the info box camoflaged in the lower right corner.  I am at 25/32 for what it's worth.  While here, I also found out that I can free look around the tree 360 degrees, and see more of the port as well.  Thanks!

Event flag "By the Fireplace" (which seems to be an one-time offer, not considering Flags containers) and some other additions (3 "More Coal" containers and 1 "New Year Sky" permanent camouflage).

Brace yourselves.

THIS MAY BE FULLY INTENTIONAL in order to incentivize player activeness. With some ornaments may duplicate, it has been calculated that it would take 82 attempts (at least 41 full days) to clear out the pool of random ornaments and guarantee completion. Randomness, quirkiness of the collection mechanics itself (like, if you have a variety of the ornaments that are hanged on the tree that hasn't been collected, then among the remaining untapped "chances", all 6 duplicates of that variety are viable for progressing the collection) and rules of mathematical exception may allow players to complete the collection before/without trying all the 82 attempts, though for many, being at the mercy of RNGesus for another 3 weeks (if one has missed more than 2 attempts before, that is a razor-thin redundancy buffer that would be and/or have been easily exhausted given the event's brief and vague introduction and the belatedly found opaque rules pattern) for such a reward which would be just plainly issued to everyone before isn't a kind of delightful experience.

Anyway, Good Luck to any and every Global and CN WoWS gamer who has been grinding for the Christmas Tree collection. May RNGesus be kind and generous on you all for the 48 or 46 (if 16 December's two attempts are already done) remaining attempts.

Plus would it be possible to use mathematical methods to estimate the most likely number of attempts that may complete the collection?

Are we supposed to select EVERY ornament received or only the new ones?  Seems the rest cancel the previous one out otherwise.

Hmm ... 7 battles a day ? Also looks like there is a tier progression where you get progressively more battles required per reward. I am at 10 required for next reward, some people here are higher (and the rewards seem worse the higher you go ;-)). What's at the end ?

My trees weren't  fully decorated. 😞  Didn't fully understood how the decorating mechanics work.

BUT.

I think there is more to it. Wedgie loves to give us puzzles. And I think that there are substyles within the main two styles.
