Anyone Still Humming And Harring About Buying A Booster Pack And Completing The Dockyard

I am still undecided about going all in for this new dockyard ship I have skipped 3 or 4 in the past, to me there a lot of pro's and con's

I like unique, strange, different and historical ships good bad or otherwise.

This Niord falls into the strange and different category so by definition its unique, the torpedo suite is also gimmicky its there to lure the player in making it hard to resist,I not after a death dealing super ship as most I end up playing in Coop so you don't need it to be the DEATH STAR simple because its Coop.

I got 2 dockyard phases before it means I have to play full price for the last 2 to get the ship if get lured into the full effort, saving  1 thousand Dubs will come in handy.

Anyone else on the fence ?

Anyone got the ship outright, is it worth gimmick is even gimmick not enough for this ship.

I dont really see a reason to go for this ship, feels just like the other Swedish T9 BB (cant remember the name right not) collecting dust in my port (got it for free in the trade in event) but just with another gimmick. And I am Swedish as well, so I should care.

If it was a apparent powerful/OP ship like Wisconsin I would consider it but I feel like this is very "Meeeeh". Also not really interested in investing so much time, effort and grind during the holiday season when I much rather spend quality time with the fam. Also not interested in giving WG money.

My practice has been to finish as many Dockyard phases as I can without spending for boosters.

The last set of Combat Missions for Dockyards have historically been the grindiest part, there is always that possibility that IRL responsibilities will prevail over my usual gaming play hour, hence I do not buy booster packs.

Now if by some stroke of luck I get to finish the free to play missions before the deadline, I will review the details and merits of the Niord (including how the ship fits into my overall play) before I even think of getting it.

As it is right now, I am enjoying what ships I have, including a lot of tech tree ships, that I find it unjustifiable to add another port queen to my fleet. I have a lot of ships I got from free Santa Crates last year that I literally have not played yet, including the Karl Johan.

No... still not really. If you wanna sit on a fence, don't choose a picket fence at least.

No, still not interested, mediocre ship, increased price and massive grind at the end, hard pass for me.

Even if I had time to grind during christmas season, hard no. 8-gun battleship with torpedo focus, bah. Just play a destroyer instead.

I have Karl Johan so I dont see the point of getting almost same ship, even Johan is better then this one.

Well, I think our two chief strategies are either a) buy the starter packs if you are willing and able to commit to this early and prepared to take it to the end, or b) wait and see, play as much as you can collecting any and all freebies along the way and only make a hard decision at the end when you'll know exactly how much you have to fork in, or c) skip it apart from just collecting the rewards you can through regular play.

As someone who obtained KXIVJ during a trade-in event, I was initially marginally interested in Niord. The idea of 12.25km concealment and 15” guns with 18.5s reload (with MBM3 before AR) intrigued me.

After the reveal of the final set of missions I’m indifferent. If I happen to unlock all the stages I might still buy the final two and obtain the ship, but I won’t be grinding for it.

I would've loved to use my Tier 5 ship container (from the Euro 2024 rewards) to get Kalmar and thus a free Niord, like I did with Leipzig/Oquendo and WV'44/Wisconsin. Sadly, WG didn't update the content of those crates, so opening it would only give me credits.

Now, if I were a new-ish player, would I spend 5000 dubs (and do a grind I'd do anyway) for a credit printer with a fairly unique playstyle? Probably.

But as someone who already has the K14J (trade-in event), has plenty of Tier 9s and, thanks to some good luck, has again drained the pool of Tier 5-7 ships in the Santa Crates, would I get this paper ship over more Santa Crates? Probably not.

If I don't get her, she'll probably be another dockyard ship in the "Tier 10 or rare" list, which is hard to access anyway. I didn't get Hizen or Anchorage for similar reasons: it's a policy.

All that I like on that ship is - camo. Also, this is first Christmass dockyard in which various santa crate for rewards are gone (I am in this game 4 years)... I think I will pass this. Also I am not happy with all this removing medium santa crates and introducing golden crates and new bunch of lower tiers so... Right now my general happiness with this patch is like winter temperature... So that all together reflects also on the dockyard which is alone questionable for me...

I'll do it because I got the dubs in santa crates and I play a lot during the Black ships -> Santa crates season 🙂  Also... Asymmetric will be back shortly and interesting Ops stuff on the horizon... maybe not good Ops stuff, but interesting.

I'll go relatively dormant again after this 🙂   I'm enjoying the "other" bigger WoW this season.

I got a ridiculous set of drops from my 20 Santa crates this time around... too good to post... Let's just say I'm only eligible to get steel again...  I share the general sentiment that the Golden Crates are a bit of a letdown even though I did get a ship out of one.

Good luck all!

As others have mentioned, having the IX Karl XIV Johan Doubloons already in my Port lessens the urge to get a similar ship, such as the Niord.

If that weren't the case, and I wanted the Niord for whatever reason, then splurging 5,000 doubloons on the 2-stages starter-pack seems sensible.
Later, the stages will cost more.

At the moment, I'm still undecided.

I just looked at the in-game dockyard progress line.

After completing the dockyard and welcoming the Niord, each "bonus" dockyard phase that a player completes will reward them with 400 steel.

Sure, each player will have to decide for themselves if the effort is worth the expense of buying a "starter pack".
Cost of 1 phase = 3,000 doubloons.
Two phase starter pack = 5,000 doubloons
6 phase starter pack = 12,600 doubloons.

Which, in addition to all the other "goodies", rewards a player (who completes the dockyard event) with two ships, namely the Niord and the Kalmar.

Decisions, decisions.  🙂

FWIW, I chose not to buy any starter pack. The extra 1000 doubloons it may cost me, should I chose  to buy out the last two phases, gives me the flexibility to just forego the whole thing, a nice optionality to have. In any case I don't really care about the ship, it would just be one more snowflake provider in my collection.

Gee whiz I won't.

I purchased the two-phase 5,000 doubloon starter-pack.
Figured that was my most economical price for the Niord.
When I looked at the maneuverability stats, the Niord can sail faster and turn tighter than the Karl Johan, and that motivated my decision.
