New Dockyard - The gotcha is at the very end

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

As I always do before spending any money towards a dockyard I check out the tasks for each week to make sure I will be able to finish it. I also look to see how badly WG back loads them too, because, well, that is their gimmick to get people hooked and then scared they won't finish so they spend on it.

As I was going down through the weekly stages I was pleasantly surprised not to see BXP tasks outside of some for the optional PVP only type (XXXX in 1 battle). Sure there were some pretty nuts regular XP types (250K CXP, 200K XP, etc...) but none of those earn 30K+ BXP tasks and we can always use boosts for the regular XP's tasks. I was like cool.

Then I get to week 8 (last week) and there's the WG I have come to know = earn 99,000 BXP! NINETY NINE THOUSAND BXP!!! I mean LOL. Not only that they made it a token task. So Instead of getting an annoying and long 20-30K BXP weekly task a few times they did it all in one week, at the very end, and for a token. OY!

You know WG is sitting back and just waiting for people to see that one...

Oy vey !  Well, I won't have the time this year to spend all day and part of the night even trying.  So, it's another "PR" event to avoid.

Thank you for the heads up.

Joke's on WG.

Some of us don't even bother to grind the hamster wheel anymore...and we play other games more and more.

Just because WG lays out the task, doesn't mean you have to do it. Jump the barricade and be free!

Since usually the last stages do require you to spend gold its prob more worthwhile to get as much of the free/grindable prizes as possible
Is there a free t5/t6 ship this time around at maybe stage 10-15?

Dear Mr. Shaft, I'm sure you share the community's concerns about the nature of the upcoming dockyard missions...

If my calculations are correct, we have nine weeks to do this dockyard. Six weeks for this patch (it's a long one), three from the next.

That being the case, your 8th set of missions will have two weeks to get done in, and that means 99,000 divided by 14 = 7000 BXP per day plus change, in any Tier 5-plus ship.

Some of us were easily making that as routine back in the era of Daily Chains.

You need to take a deep breath when you see the big numbers and work out what it actually means on a daily basis.

PR was much more difficult than this.

Hell, even HIzen was more difficult than this because it wanted just as much BXP in the same time but in two specific ship types. Here you can pick what you want.

That's the point...pretend people can earn it, when the whole point is to buy it.

Allows wallet warriors to borrow prestige from the fact they could have earned it...and makes WG money.

It's a typical marketing tactic from this end of the gaming industry.

You need to take a deep breath and understand that even if we can meet that requirement, it is a ridiculous one. Sure you can choose to slave yourself to your daily Co-op XP quotas, but that's you.

And you should stop denigrating valid reactions of forum members.

So I guess WG ensures that anyone even gonna attempt this dockyard will be forced to invest in some BS Starting package then? Not creepy business model at all.

Stage 8

T5 EU Premium DD Kalmar (I got both starter packs which does 8 stages so that did the ship)

You get Steel compensation for the duplicate stages you buy out and then do by playing. Also, it is 400 Steel this time p/ stage not 250 like it has been for a while now (used to be 500). So that player can get 18X400=7200 Steel by buying it out and then doing all the tasks playing. I never buy an entire dockyard out but usually do the starter packs for the Steel, RB pts, etc... compensation.

My argument is that they are overreactions.

Requirements for previous Christmas dockyards (Cf. Hizen) suggest that this is well within expectations. Yes, I know we all got spoiled by the Wisky and Oquendo dockyards being more lenient in this regard, so maybe a return to base form seems like a shock in comparison.

For some, this will be six or seven good random battles a night or perhaps even fewer Star Trek operations. It looks like Clan Battles are included, so that's covered by three wins for those who go that route.

For others, who got terrified by that number on sight... well, they've already given themselves a psychological handicap.

Yes, it would have been better for it to be put in week six or seven so that we could go around it and complete it on the side at a lower daily quota. But right now this is what we've got, and my first instinct has ALWAYS been to boil it down to a daily quota and see how doable that is. And in the light of things we've been asked to do in the past, it's really not that bad.

We're back to the usual thing of needing at least SOME paid stages to finish (two, in this case). My take on starter packs is that they are a sunk-cost noob trap, and I never buy them. The slight extra is worth paying at the end to know (a) that I ca actually get all the free stages with gameplay and (b) that the ship actually looks good enough to pay money for. I get two patches worth of watching others play it to make up my mind, and in the meantime I'm using the grind as a stalking horse to advance my own agenda. Win-win.

I believe the reverse is true, unless things have changed since I last took the dockyard seriously. You know you are going to need to spend money on it, and the starter packs at least used to provide the better value.

Will it be possible to complete the dockyard without the need to grind the 99k BXP, if you buy the starter packs? That is the question.💀

They are not overreactions. A lot of us have full lives outside the game and countless more do not have the luxury of time to be playing on a daily basis.

Both were well received because the requirements do not weigh heavily against those whose lives do not revolve around World of Warships.

I have a full life outside this game, and yet somehow I get it all done around my full-time job and taking kids to and fro to things all evening.

Did those people ever finish ANY Dockyard?

It bears emphasizing that not all have the luxury of time to play on a daily basis. A lot of us especially during the Holidays spend time with our families and friends instead of sitting in front of the computer grinding dockyards. Hence the valid, legitimate, and totally not overreacting response to that ridiculous 99,000 Base XP requirement.

If you want to continue defending Wargaming's 99,000 Base XP requirement, it is fine, that's your call. But using your own singular experience to defend that requirement is defective at the least.

Thanks for the explanation.   Our clan has several members whom will do exactly that today sometime...  It's what they and hundreds of others do as well.

That's just "not me" and I'll enjoy whatever I do "get for free" out of this Holiday Season.

Again, thanks and have a Happy Holiday !

99,000 Base XP in tasks for NIORD? -_- It became a little clearer why the price was slightly reduced. No, wg, thx, I have enough good T9 BBs.

In my experiences with clan mates, whom I have known for decades outside of games;  and, are/were in the same clan in other games, it's about 50/50.  Depends on the Dockyard's requirements.

Thanks for catching it. Looks like I will be Niord-free and worry free. I'll also warn my clan mates about it, so they won't wander into it unaware.
