HogHammer Posted December 1, 2024 Posted December 1, 2024 Making WoWs Enjoyable Through Analysis, Content, and Song @clydeplays is a well-known content creator (CC) in the World of Warships (WoWs) community. His approach blends educational insight, creative expression, and a commitment to fostering a welcoming community. "I try to do this by producing useful educational content and creating social spaces where people feel welcome and want to spend their time," he says. Since his content debut in 2020, Clyde has leveraged his passion for the game and talent for content creation to empower players, entertain viewers, and build a robust and supportive audience. Educational Excellence: Making WoWs Accessible Education is the cornerstone of ClydePlays’ content. His primary mission is to help players understand the complex systems within WoWs, from their economy to resource management. Clyde creates tools and tutorials that allow players to improve their skills, save resources, and maximize their in-game investments. One of Clyde’s most impactful contributions is his Captain Management Spreadsheet. This tool enables players to develop 21-point commanders, a crucial milestone in WoWs progression, efficiently and with minimal guesswork. While data-heavy, the spreadsheet’s popularity within the community underscores its value. Similarly, his Kitakami Economic Planner emerged as an essential resource during the ship's release in 2023. This planner helped players determine the feasibility of acquiring the ship without overextending their resources. Whether guiding players through the nuances of ship costs or demystifying event participation, Clyde’s content empowers his viewers to make informed decisions. Beyond spreadsheets, Clyde encourages collaboration through his community. His Discord’s "#wows-math channel" exemplifies this spirit, as members analyze game events and share strategies. Clyde educates and fosters an environment where knowledge-sharing thrives, ensuring players of all levels feel equipped to succeed. Building a Welcoming Community Clyde’s dedication to community-building is evident in every aspect of his work. From Twitch streams to Discord interactions, Clyde fosters spaces where players feel valued and comfortable. His streams provide opportunities for beginners to seek advice, veterans to share experiences, and everyone to take a break from the pressures of ranked gameplay. This sense of inclusion extends to Clyde’s Discord server, described as a haven for “talking ship.” Whether offering guidance or celebrating milestones, Clyde’s community embodies mutual support and camaraderie. By emphasizing respect and accessibility, Clyde has cultivated an audience that feels more like a family than a fanbase. Clyde’s emphasis on creating “comfy and helpful social spaces” distinguishes him from other creators. His viewers don’t just consume content—they actively participate in a thriving, supportive ecosystem. This dynamic helps make ClydePlays’ platform a unique and welcoming corner of the WoWs community. Creative Expression: More Than Just a Streamer Clyde’s love for creative projects sets him apart. Whether producing educational videos or entertaining sketches, Clyde brings a distinctive flair to his work. His 50/50 Challenges on Twitch, where he sets unique in-game goals, combine entertainment with gameplay. On YouTube, he delves into nuanced topics like “How Does Fire Chance Really Work?” (also linked below), breaking down mechanics in a way that resonates with his audience. Clyde’s most memorable projects include parody music videos like Crossfire and whimsical sketch comedies featuring a Sesame Street-style puppet. His humorous commercials, such as the French ham ad or the Vallejo parody (linked below), showcase his ability to infuse WoWs content with humor and personality. Clyde demonstrates his knack for large-scale creative endeavors in live productions like the Golden Barnacles awards show. These events engage the community on multiple levels, blending gameplay, humor, and celebration into a cohesive experience. Clyde’s passion for content creation goes beyond gameplay; it’s about crafting memorable experiences for his viewers. Special Events and Community Engagement Clyde’s annual Holiday Stream-Stravaganza is a highlight for his community. This festive event combines giveaways, decorations, and playful mini-games, reinforcing the celebratory atmosphere that Clyde cultivates year-round. Additionally, Clyde collaborates with other creators on unique projects like the Ship Show podcast, where he and fellow streamer @Skada_Hurte discuss thematic ship topics. Another standout collaboration is Smash or Trash, a lighthearted evaluation of WoWs ships with @JustCheg. These shows enrich Clyde’s content library while engaging his audience in deeper discussions about the game. The Journey to Content Creation Clyde’s journey began in 2015 when he first discovered WoWs during its transition out of beta. Despite being new to naval combat games, he quickly became immersed in the gameplay and its strategic depth. In 2020, a standout battle in the Daring class ship inspired Clyde’s first YouTube video, launching his career as a content creator. After briefly experimenting with streaming World of Tanks, Clyde realized his expertise lay in WoWs. His extensive knowledge and passion for the game made it a natural focus for his content. Over time, Clyde’s commitment to learning, combined with his community’s contributions, allowed him to refine his craft and continue growing as a creator. Diverse Interests and Passions While WoWs remains Clyde’s primary focus, he occasionally streams other games, showcasing his diverse interests. From indie narratives like Firewatch and Oxenfree to larger titles like Baldur’s Gate 3, Clyde’s gaming portfolio reflects his curiosity and creativity. He’s also explored non-gaming hobbies, such as woodworking, miniature painting, and tabletop RPGs, where he often serves as a game master crafting intricate stories. Clyde’s musical background adds another layer to his creative identity. A former band member, Clyde enjoys playing guitar and occasionally writing songs, blending his love for music with his content. His multifaceted interests enrich his streams and deepen his connection with viewers who share similar passions. A Community-Driven Legacy ClydePlays’ community is at the core of his success. Members describe it as supportive, collaborative, and fun—where everyone feels welcome. Whether analyzing in-game mechanics, cheering on each other’s achievements, or sharing a laugh over Clyde’s parody videos, his audience exemplifies the values he promotes. What Do His Viewers Think -- "I am Clyde's friend in real life, and during the pandemic, I had the idea for him to make some (WoWs) ship content, which got him going on YouTube. I am super proud of where he has taken his channel and love the community that has sprung up around it in the last 4 years." -- @Skada_Hurte Skada_Hurte (NA) "As a streamer, entertaining, open to ideas, helpful to newbies, good with giving out accurate info. As a YouTuber, data-filled videos done for entertainment and enlightenment accomplish both. In Discord, the only one I know that encourages folks to math out elements of the game, that alone sets it apart from the rest." -- @DownriverRick DownriverRick (NA) "Chill stream. Occasional Win Rate Challenge games (watch Clyde suffer trying to bring a bad WR ship back up to 50%). Will occasionally have guest(s) over for a chat. Home of the Golden Barnacles - the Awards show where the player base gets to vote on the Ship Of The Year. He mostly plays World of Warships but will play other games. Warning: Do not tap on the glass. If startled Clyde may start playing the guitar and sing!" -- @Grantwhy Grantwhy (NA) "I've been aware of Clyde Plays for at least a couple of years. I subscribe to whatever venue he creates. He is sharp and entertaining, has a great pizza video, and plays guitar in an entertaining way. His YouTube content is pretty extensive. I like ClydePlays." -- @Justin_Simpleton "The data" -- ATPyro (NA) "I have been following Clyde for over 2 years, and there are 3 things I enjoy. First is that Clyde is a good guy and cares about his followers, not just about the publicity. Second is that he is not a unicum. A good player who I can relate to. Third, always coming up with new ways to engage such as the Golden Barnacles, Ships shows with guests and helpful YT videos." -- Canoewithtorps (NA) "We do a lot of math and like pizzas. ClydePlays music as well like Dumb Ways to Die and Crossfire. " -- JoeyK1414 (NA) "We support each other as a community and cheer on each other's accomplishments. Also, pizzas and detonations are important pieces too. Vallejo exists…. In the woods! Okay, one more - at least with some other streamers I’ve encountered, Clyde shows a lot of humility with his viewers." -- fzrs4523 (NA) "I've been viewing ClydePlays' Twitch and YouTube for some time. Some of my favorites are his technical breakdowns of the game and how it works. If you want to understand MatchMaking, watch his videos. Get the lowdown on changes to the game and how they affect your game play, picking a steel ship, building up commanders, is a mod worth it - there's a video for it. Really, there is something for everyone. I cannot recommend ClydePlays enough." -- @Love_Ur_Cits (NA) "The best commercials for non-existing products! Only on ClydePlays." -- PrideOfSinbad (EU) Special Bonus Video "for all the Barney's out there" How is Fire Chance Calculated in World of Warships? Love_Ur_Cits Posted December 1, 2024 Posted December 1, 2024 No one can break down various aspects of the game like ClydePlays. I don't get to watch too many of his Twitch streams, but his YouTube videos are fantastic. The list of videos above is excellent and gives you a much better understanding of the current state of the game. The times I have caught his Twitch stream, all I can say is that they are informative, and he is eager to engage with chat any questions they may have. He is really an asset to the Warships CC program. 3 2
