King of the Sea announcements – Special Operations and New Ship Concept

New development blog article about, to summarise, a temporary "Special Operations" mode which will run alongside normal operations, be restricted to Tier IX-X ships only, and have special enemy flagships which give extra buffs to nearby bots and have unique vulnerabilities; and the testing of three new ships which all share the same gimmick of having improved accuracy/reload as their health reduces (like with the AR skill, which will also stack on top of this gimmick), start battle with reduced HP with the option to repair back up to full, have burst fire (which can only be used up to a certain range), and start battle with a limited quantity of improved AP shells (this might be dependent on using it with the burst fire, but the wording seems unclear to me).

I have to say, I am intrigued by this flagship concept.

Why?

Because it is at least an arcade like way of implementing something that is a real concept. We've had something similar already in Hermes, with the Ruan providing the repair circle half way through the operation. I'd like to see the concept expanded on.

Now, some other games have expanded on the "Flag Ship" concept where that Captain actually is in charge of the force he/she/they command !  And, gets rated as to how well, after the match he/she/they lead...  Gets extra "stuff" for leading as well.  In one of those games, some of the match callers are so desired, you actually have to schedule to be on their teams !

In this game?  They removed detonations;  so, what is the point of the burst fire with improved AP munitions?

Repair circles are a great idea.  Heck, in some games there are "medics" and people actually play those roles;  and,  "great medics" are someone the competitive teams chase to have !   This game could actually do that as well:  repair ships.  I actually have known two WW2 sailors whom served in the Pacific on repair ships !  Their stories were sometimes intense minutes where what they did enabled combatants to return to the fight, countered by, the framework of days of absolute boredom...?

The product needs to be refreshed. They need to bring back creative ways of sinking ships fast since Random Battles and Operations and Co-op and Ranked are (at least for me) getting stale. We will see more gimmicks, definitely.

They are, and they've been in Operations (Narai, Raptor, Cherry, Newport, Hermes) ever since I can remember. What they need to bring back is the ability to spawn again after your ship is sunk, just like how they did it with Space Battles.

I think they're called that just because they were announced during the KoTS tournament, with some of the changes being announced/discussed on the official KoTS stream.
