Get the Salem, then equip her for lighthouse build. Your commander should also have TGG to complete the build. Good luck. 5 1

Taylor3006 Posted November 10 Posted November 10 (edited) Right now I would say Scharnhorst 43 is probably one of the better ships for the mode. She is fast, has torps that reload pretty quickly, and smaller caliber guns with a shorter reload time, and pretty decent secondaries. Throw Lutjens on her and she is a little monster. The Pommern is pretty good too and is nice for Operations. For cruisers you want fast firing guns, usually with torps and good speed. Salem is the exception to the torps rule. Flint is quite good, just play her like Atlanta, and Marblehead is solid if you want something low tier. Brisbane is a good pick too. Pozharsky is an ok choice. Her lack of HE can be a PITA since a lot of times you are firing at ships headed right at you, angled. If you catch something broadside you will murder them plus the torps are handy. Personally I don't like the Carnot or Agir but others may. Almost all DDs do well in co-op. Hill is one of my favorite DDs. Aigle's guns turn pretty slow so not a fan but still can hold her own. Subs I have no experience with. My observation of them in games is they tend to score near the bottom of the board and so do carriers. Subs have the added problem that all the bots will focus on them so survival is pretty poor. Carriers need time to accrue damage and co-op games are over quickly. Most of the coal ships will do just fine in co-op. The ones to avoid are really slow ships like Anhalt and October Revolution. Anything under tier 5 is probably not worth it although they are fun to play. Edited November 10 by Taylor3006 2 1
Keyman Posted November 10 Posted November 10 From your list i'd recommend Salem, Brisbane and Groningen first. 1
djc_499 Posted November 10 Posted November 10 Based on your list I would also vote for the Salem. She is my most played ship (+1,500 battles) and she can be incredible in Coop matches as documented in many postings in the "Best Coop Battle" and "+1000 BXP Battles" Coop threads. 1 1

Moskva Salem M.Immelmann Brisbane U-4501 F.Sherman Groningen Of your listed ships, I have the U-4501, the Brisbane and the Max Immelmann. I will leave opinions of other ships to player who actually have them. While the U-4501 can sail into Co-op just fine, there is only one Scenario Operation intended for Submarines (last time I checked, anyway). The Brisbane is a fun ship, but, like light cruisers in general, she can be fragile. The Max Immelmann is a CV that is comfortable in Co-op and Scenario Operations (and randoms, if you desire). A competent CV player can make good use of her. Of these three, the Brisbane seems the most versatile. That said, the Moskva and the Salem may offer serious competition for your coal. Hope you enjoy your shopping experience. 🙂 Edited November 10 by Wolfswetpaws 1
Kruzenstern Posted November 10 Posted November 10 (edited) As far as Coop goes, Salem is one of the if not THE best ship in the game for that mode, no questions asked. In operations it is not as clear cut, since Salem suffers a little from not being able to reliably citadel Yoshinos and the like at medium range. For that you need BBs and large cruisers, and Moskva does that reasonably well (Not as well as Alaska, but Alaska isn't a coal ship). Personally I have been doing better in ops with Moskva than with Salem. Salem only wins where you can't get into broadsides easily, like Hermes. Brisbane is also a good pick, but won't do well in those scenarios where applying torps is hard. But going beyond your list, other good coal ships for operations are: Iwami -> Great secondaries and also great main guns. Totally blows Pommern out of the water and actually almost rivals Schlieffen. Jäger -> Imho the most fun DD to play. Fast torp reload, fast torps, long torp range and very tight spreads. Like Brisbane not very good for some scenarios, but absolutely dominating in Aegis. Yoshino -> Beat the bots at their own game. Great for damaging her likeness which is ubiquitous in tier9+ missions (and anything else really). Guns are weaker than Moskva, but makes up for that with 20km torps. Napoli -> Has it all, guns good enough for citas on Yoshinos, torps, AND strong secondaries. All the while being fast AND tanky. Can't go wrong with this ship in PvE just like in PvP. I would say she is the best package of them all. Edited November 10 by Kruzenstern 4 1

Senkan Posted November 10 Posted November 10 Salem. Napoli if you don't already have it. You can put a S.Mike on Napoli and sail for the center of zone and not even fire your guns or torps and end up getting 300 BXP. 1
Ghastous Posted November 10 Author Posted November 10 Im still undecided haha there is that many to choose from 1

I would say she is the best package of them all. @Kruzenstern does make some valid points. 1. Personally, I prefer the Iwami over the Pommern. The Iwami can wiggle better (for a Battleship) and her torpedoes have a longer range and do more damage. With few consumables to manage, she has a uncomplicated sail-style. Hoist a Sierra-Mike speed-flag and blap yer opponents with aplomb. 2. The Yoshino is a versatile, if large, Cruiser. As a "large" Cruiser, she doesn't turn well, and burns too well with fires. But her guns can punch through stuff that the Brisbane and Napoli's guns simply cannot. There are times when this is desired. And if the Yoshino gets a chance to use her torpedoes, they pack a wallop. 3. Napoli is a "Jack of Trades". Versatile, decent at dealing damage and pretty good at "just dodging" damage with her rudder-shift capability. Compared to the Yoshino, she lacks main-gun punch and range, and same for her torpedoes. Her sec-bat guns are meme-worthy fun, though. And her lack of detection consumables means that you'll rely upon your instincts and team-mates. Fun ship in Co-op? Certainly. Fun in Scenario Operations? Sure. She may struggle a bit in randoms or other PvP modes, though. Personally, I like all of them. Each has their own "flavor", and virtues, vices & quirks. 1

Efros Posted November 10 Posted November 10 In my book Salem, I've played her almost as much as my DM and I've had DM for longer. There's a hair's breadth difference in performance but Salem has that heroic heal. The only thing she is missing as far as I am concerned is a spotter to give her some extra range. 1

I responded to your post before you added the ships you were looking at. It took me a bit as I had to go look at the list of ships that were available for coal. Of those on your list, in order of my preference, it would be Salem, Brisbane, and Groningen. I disliked Sherman a lot because of the weird torp angles so sold her off during the trade in event. I even bought her again to trade her off again during the same event so I could get two ships that are normally available for steel. 1
Ghastous Posted November 11 Author Posted November 11 So i bit the bullet and got the Salem and yeh its ok ive had a few games in it so far not doing to go cos i keep getting put with ships that are just better then mine so i cant get much damage before the ships are sunk. Ill give it a try on OPs and see whats its like there.

Asym Posted November 11 Posted November 11 This is a hard question because I play in Divisions most of the time.... And, I am an IJN main so...... Coop & Operations Cruisers: Yodo, Shimato - because they really are AA boats with a well balanced weapons mix. Napoli is a non IJN but has severed me well... Anchorage for the American side. Weimar for the German or the lower versions of her. Bayard for the French.... The British Plymouth and Minotaur work well. DD's. I stick to the INN's mostly and when I am in a Mood, the USS Benham. BB's: The Burgoo (Bourgogne), Schlieffen or the Kii or Iwami.

The Salem can give you lots of fun in Cherry Blossom. For example, with that second wave of ships composed of Azumas, you can meet them head on and citadel them easy. 1

I tend to not push much now in cherry blossom cos for the last few months the teams you get in OPs are kinda crap and have no clue how to play most of the ops missions and just play it like they are playing coop and then complain when missions start failing.
