No no this isn't a 'WAAAHHHHH' thread sorry...

Does anyone know if subs get a better base XP multiplier as playing 'Alliance' I've been ranking up reasonably well (most of the time the red sub dies to ASW after I light em up with Sub Surv' and saving a star even though I don't do a great deal of damage or spotting compared to what I would do in a DD. I know spotting a sub until its dead, along with a torp of two of my own, will give good xp but still this doesn't seem to correlate to gunning down a DD completely.

Any thoughts?

This!

It has insane boosted XP earnings for WG reasons. It also has an insane ability to perma spot the enemy team thru the whole match with little to no risk and racking up some 150 000 - 200 000 spotting damage for free by just dipping in and out of surface the entire round.

I showcased this with screenshots hundreds of times in other Sub-threads, where I done fook-all damage (like below 50 000 damage) and still gotten 2000-3000 Base XP and the nr.1 spot on the winning team.

Subs are pretty much a free "Never lose a star in Ranked" card as well as finish any "Be Top 3 in youre team in a winning battle" missions.

I don't know about the added sub XP as I only run them on the test server & never paid attention to the XP earnings other than to finish missions there but...

Actually...since they changed spotting XP to be the same amount of XP as dealing the damage spotting a sub until it's dead correlates exactly to gunning down a DD...

All ships of the same tier are worth exactly the same BXP...always have been...

Sub/DD/BB/CV/or any of the various cruisers of the same tier are worth exactly the same amount of BXP...no matter the variance of the HP between them...

IOW...full life BB = full life same tier sub (or any other same tier ship***)...& the kill shot (no matter how little else of it you damaged) gets you 15% extra...

So 1/2 a BBs HP is equivalent to 1/2 a subs HP (***ditto)...& All other fractions (1/4 of each...or 1/3 of each...etc.) are the same...

Not sure how heals add up though...if they are additional XP or if the ship overall is worth a certain amount no matter how many heals it used.

That's what I thought. There was a lot of internets rumours going around that the base XP was higher for subs. You never know with the hidden multipliers. I didn't even know that tier 7 ranked got pulled as Sims has a hidden increased base XP so peeps threw temper tanties. Again all maybe hearsay.

Subs are in a rather unique position of having only torpedoes to do damage with, a weapons system that is slow-firing and notorious for missing most shots.  Add in the unique handicaps Subs face with those weapons, and it would make a great deal of sense for the Sub to get a modifier to compensate and bring them up to competitive xp production.  The question would be did they go too far?

The Sims does have an extra baked in BXP multiplier...

All premiums have a baked in BXP multiplier but Sims has an extra one...

Hasn't stopped them from using T7 in Ranked though...they did for awhile but it's been used on & off the last couple years at least & the Sims has had the addition since it came out years ago...

There was a big uproar about it years ago & they stopped doing T7 ranked for quite awhile on account of it...but they got over it (<-- translates to: they chased enough veterans away that knew about it & cared that the complaints got to an acceptable amount) & started throwing T7 ranks in again occasionally quite awhile ago.

Damn right they went too far. You forget some sub wubs are armed with useable deck guns. I usually ignore the torps and just go with the guns and frequently obtain Kraken/Confederate/High Calibre...

Just sailed my U-190 in a couple of ranked battles.  Both were victories.
I was fortunate to have good team-mates.
In the first battle, I earned a "Combat Scout" achievement.  My team was kind enough to sink the opposing Submarine (also a U-190) after I'd spotted her.
In the second battle, I sank a Z-23 and a Bismarck.  This battle was interesting because the outcome was in doubt until the last minute.
Both were "good games".  🙂

We must alternate sub div....can CVs div with subs for a nice, extra salty seasoning?

The Subs with guns are very few exceptions, and trying to configure the ship type xp based on them would be just as wrong as configuring all Battleships based on those with Radar (perhaps only allowing all Battleships to gain XP if they have radar active, regardless of if the particular BB is equipped with it? ).  The vast majority must hit with their torpedoes to get damage XP, and as I mentioned previously, those are one of the worst weapon systems for sustained, reliable damage as implemented.

I'll also gladly take on any Sub that wants to get into a gun duel with my surface ship and not use its torpedoes.  Then again, if you are close enough to use the gun, you don't have any other worthwhile weapons anyway, given the 3km minimum run range they implemented on all Sub torpedoes.

Let me put it like this:

  • my record base xp in the classes I've played >98% of the time (DDs, cruisers, BBs, CVs) is about 3600
  • my record base xp in subs, which I've played <2% of the time and which are my worst-performing class winrate-wise, is 4400

So, does this mean you can have a 'meh' game in a sub and be the one who saves their star in a loss?

Definitely!

At work right now so cant show post battle screens, but I had games at T10 with less then 50K damage and I ended up Nr.1 on the winning team with 2000-2500 Base XP.

Now I haven't touched Ranked for sanity reasons in about 6-7 Years, but the effects of the insane Sub-Bias XP boost should be quite effective even in a 6 Vs. 6 format.

I should mention that I might be playing subs in an "unconventional" way. Since I been a DD Main since 2015 I have pretty great minimap and game awareness, so I usually stay on surface or at periscope about 80-90% of my games which means I constantly spot for my team the entire match and rack up some insane spotting damage. I rarely dive deep in my sub because I really dont see any purpose for it (unless CV planes pop up then I go to 30 meters while they pass me).

I always play Subs for all those "End up Top 3 on the team" or "Earn X amounts of Base XP" missions, its almost child play. Also great for all "Earn X amounts of Heroic achievements since you get a free "Combat scout" in almost every other Sub game you play. If you play GATO you will also earn a lot of Dev strikes, Confederate (which boost you're torp reload even further with Halsey) and High Caliber.

Even gotten a Die Hard while ramming a DD with ramming flag.

Yes as I mentioned in the original post I ranked up in bronze quite quickly with Alliance.

I agree with @OldSchoolGaming_Youtube and @Sumseaman.  It's possible.
Can't say that I've done so myself, yet.

Sure, this is Randoms competing for the nr.1 spot with great and powerful T10 ships, but the difference shouldn't be that big in Ranked. Might even be a bigger effect due to 6 Vs. 6.

The only real problem with Subs in Ranked is that with half the ships on each side, they tend to take up a slot that would normally be a DD in a match where cap control is paramount.  Not as many teammates to distract the enemy either, and the engagements tend to be closer range.

It seems a bit depressing that this gives more agency to folks whose strategy for ranking out is just to smash the Battle button over and over until they get carried enough.

Yup, Ranked in a nutshell. Combining the worst gaming experience with the worst of the playerbase.

I don't play 'Ranked' either, since, it is, well, 'rank' 😁. A steaming pile of ☣️💩.
