Andrewbassg Posted October 24, 2024 Posted October 24, 2024 Japanese aircraft carrier Shinano, Tier X AP Skip Bombers squadron parameters changed: Number of planes in attacking flight increased: 3 to 4. Number of planes in a squadron increased: 9 to 12. Number of aircraft on deck increased: 14 to 18. Bomb parameters changed: Bombs now penetrate 32mm and thinner armor without the possibility of ricocheting.(!!!) Attack time increased: 6 to 12s. Aiming parameters during attack have been adjusted. The expansion of the aiming reticle during aircraft turns was reduced. Squadron maneuverability parameters improved. Torpedo bombers squadron parameters changed: Number of planes in a squadron increased: 6 to 9. Number of aircraft on deck increased: 9 to 12. Surface detectability range reduced: 14.8 to 14.3km. All other detectability ranges adjusted accordingly https://blog.worldofwarships.com/blog/566 Wedgie is desperate for dollar!!! Flamu vid in 5.....4......3...... 2 2
Nevermore135 Posted October 24, 2024 Posted October 24, 2024 (edited) Well… it’s a Yamato class, right? It’s got to have 32mm overmatch! /s In all seriousness though, that’s the change that stands out to me. The rest looks like the standard back-and-forth balancing we often see for ships that aren’t near-clones of others already in the game. Edited October 24, 2024 by Nevermore135 1
Admiral_Karasu Posted October 24, 2024 Posted October 24, 2024 To me this looks like a bit of a buff, right? 1

Except... X Shinano Armor parameters changed: Fore and aft portions of the main belt plating thickness reduced: 410 to 400mm. Hangar sides plating thickness increased: 27 to 30mm. Firing angles of all secondary batteries improved. The "Engine Cooling" consumable action time for all the squadrons increased: 5 to 15s. AP Skip Bombers squadron parameters changed: The angle at which the check for ricochets is made for AP bombs increased: 45 to 55 degrees. Guaranteed ricochet angle for AP bombs increased: 55 to 65 degrees. Added Repair consumable with similar parameters to those found on Torpedo Bomber squadron. Number of planes in attacking flight reduced: 4 to 3. Number of planes in squadron increased: 8 to 9. Number of aircraft on deck increased: 12 to 14. https://blog.worldofwarships.com/blog/564

As I said, those types of balance changes are pretty standard for CVs (and other ships) in development. Giving the skip bombs Yamato “LOL pen” stuck out to me, as that’s a fundamentally different capability we haven’t seen in the game before. Edited October 24, 2024 by Nevermore135

That's not exactly a minor balancing, that's a ship defining change. And + the 32 mm penetration...... So, its pretty clear, that Wedgie isn't having "being balanced" in its mind, related to this ship. Edited October 24, 2024 by Andrewbassg 1
SureBridge Posted October 24, 2024 Posted October 24, 2024 I'm still curious how the physics of "AP" skip bombs work, AP (and HEAT, and HEAP) is a directional ammunition. Skip bombs spin. These are mutually contradictory (which is why these were never developed IRL) Even if you look at the "dam buster" skip bombs, this was just a delivery mechanism for a (very large) explosive charge 5

majmac Posted October 24, 2024 Posted October 24, 2024 Nothing unusual. WG is always going to buff and protect its child, CV class. I remember somewhere, sometime they posted about reducing the spotting advantage of CVs. Still waiting... In the meanwhile new, buffed CVs come out.

They were designed to run up to the dam wall, sink to the bottom, then detonate with water pressure keeping the explosive force in a small area effectively magnifying the effect on the dam wall. No such mechanism works in open water at the shallow depth where are ship hulls live. 1
