Weekend Spree - 23-25 August 2024

Streamed, did my naval battles, finished off Week 3 of the Dockyard.

On Sunday, I decided that I was having so much fun in L'Aventurier that I was going to finish it. Lo and behold, Brawls are in Tier 8 and offer the potential for juicy XP if blue boosters and wins coincide. Risked a few, gains were good.

Called it quits with a touch over 177,000 XP on the ship. I don't think there's any T9 DD in the game which needs that much, so I feel safe in handing her over to a 10 pointer from reserve, and Auboyneau goes straight into the Orage as soon as the line unlocks. I haven't yet decided who's going to drive the Kleber from now on, but Auboyneau has mostly been sitting about on his escargot-shaped butt until this grind, so it's about time he did some work.

Done with the Naval Battles.  Done with this week's dockyard.  Played a lot of COOP because the weather went upside down this AM...  They had to cancel the Air show today because of extreme weather.   About 65,000 yesterday.  Other than that, glad the weekend is over.

On Saturday I went to a big blowout party at my childhood home, which is now owned by a friend of mine.  On Sunday took the wife winetasting, beautiful day.  Most pertinent to this forum is this little gem which was my final battle on Friday night:

My wife was very exasperated by excited for me while I ran around the house singing "I got the Kraken!  I got the Super Kraken!"

Not a lot of WoWs activity this weekend.

Thursday night I made the decision to go ahead and finish grinding the Benson to Fletcher, then used Free XP to unlock Gearing. Friday, I went ahead and reset the line. Total FXP use to grind to the T9 was ~370,000 FXP. (Researched and bought all modules in the T2-T8 to avoid fighting them stock.)

Saturday, ground through to Nicholas.

Opened two non-memorable supercontainers.

Nothing today.

Discovered that the Albermarle (T8 UK heavy cruiser) was surprisingly capable in brawls. Put on boosters and cleared enough XP to get the Drake on Friday, and finished the brawl missions on Saturday (only 4 wins needed after the Friday smash-fest).

I'm now considering this cruiser for clan battles, since it isn't that much less capable than Baltimore (the lack of RADAR and useful armour is problematic, but it gets torps and a superheal to compensate)

Le Terrible / La Fantastique continue to dominate some 2V2 brawl maps, and I'm slowly moving through the Iowa to get the T10 "fast" US battleship line completed.

@Ensign Cthulhu the highest EXP requirement for a destroyer line is 166k, so you should be fine - I ground through L'Aventurer in the "mode swap" battles last week, and am trying to decide if I build for guns or torps on this line. Looks like the T10 is the "good" ship, with 4 racks of fast loading torps: I'm finding that the 3x3 rack configuration from Vaquelin / La Fantastique isn't the best, and the lines overall lack of speed is challenging.

Spent some time on the PTS playing t9+ random operations.  TPTB have definitely upped the difficulty.  I'm sure that there will be some tweaking if it is released in 2 weeks.  Overall, I think that it is currently do-able, however I wouldn't expect to see many 5-star results (at least not with random teams.)  Once players figure out how to play the upscaled ops it should be more winnable.  Where the rewards will end up is still a mystery.  Current iteration shows it could rival the rewards for PVP random games, so I think that some scaling will be in order.

This weekend, I got the NB win with both my clans;

NA 19 - 10 (just two of us contributed) & EU 78 - 77 (a real close one).

The problem with WG MM is the amount of stinking blatant CHEATS that one experiences. Utter garbage - no wonder players are quitting.

That's always nice. You know it's in good hands.

Mine has also been known to roll her eyes while I celebrate the things I did in "shooty boats".  My first August 24 supercontainer was a ship, so of course I whooped for joy and she called back "Are you okay in there?"

This thread is a celebration of our experiences. Please take your hobby-horse whining elsewhere.

I include the positive part of my experience, again, to remind you .....

We've heard your negative celebration time and time again. Are you old enough to remember cassette tapes, and what happened to a poor-quality tape if played too often? That's what your ranting about matchmaking is sounding like to my ears. It makes you come across as a bad sport who doesn't cope with losing very well.

Not surprised.

Pretty sure my L'Aventurier did well last night because of her nuclear-level torps and a well-timed speed boost, which makes her fast enough for short stretches. Three within full-damage range is sometimes enough to finish a BB, and will almost always finish a cruiser. The problem is that the load is relatively slow, so you've got two minutes to kill before you can do anything of serious consequence.

I'm reasonably certain as well (left the green boosters on and pushed it to 177K in brawls to give me what I hope is an unassailable buffer). But normally the early release ships have been in the Wiki by now, and this isn't the case this time around. So I am mildly paranoid...

I could have Orage by New Year if I really wanted to flog myself (a mere 3000 XP per day in co-op), but my current 21 point candidate is Sansonetti so I'm deferring Orage to the new year when it will be Auboyneau's turn (Cunningham is technically closer to the top, but Cunningham has already taken his line to Tier 10 and I'm not sure I want to move him out of Audacious; Auboyneau still has a lot of work to do).

I didn't like Mahan/Maerker for this reason either. Orage continues the trend, though, so one must do the best one can.

Had an excellent week-end in Naval Battles and we did win against our NA enemy by a decent margin. The guys came out in force late into the EU evening to nab some extra stars. However, my wins for all these randoms remains in the dumpster. Can not win for losing. But some of my stars were gained even losing which does tell me I am improving as a player. My damage numbers for average were much higher than usual. Also even though playing at Tier VIII in randoms I got uptiered quite often with Xs which I tried to look at like an opportunity rather than a detriment. I find the X players to be a little sensitive and complain about VIIIs in the chat extensively. I called them a bunch of lousy karens and premadonnas and was hastily corrected to prima donnas as if they wished me to get the spelling correct. I did lose my coveted one karma even though I think I made them laugh out loud. [And shortly thereafter regained another 1 karma to covet sparingly throughout my next trials.] I cannot find the 999 karma in Aslains for some reason although I like to see it as it is.

Other than that, I had finished the DY week by Saturday and some heart of oak regular container missions with some Tier IX co-op and some decent brawls at Tier VIII.

It was not overly productive as last week-end but I tried some Tier X brawls to-day and it is like I need a reminder why I do not play Tier 1o brawls. Even with a BB there is no way to come out of the situation with some credits. Even winning with 9o k damage nets a negative 2o k.

I hope you've had as productive a week-end as you can muster.

Ow.  Bad form Mate....

Please, take your positive energy, your normal ebullient and effervescent outlook, and agree to disagree and suggest some positive energy....

Please, don't Moriarty the guy...  Or, as one of my hero's said:

"Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves?

Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here?

Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?"   (Kelly's Hero's, "Oddball and Moriarty", 1970 ARR)

We all are but Human  -  well, sort of, cause some of us have been influenced by Alien Space Bats and exist in a slightly different reality (From S.M. Stirling's "Dies the Fire" with a reference to where he first head about ASB's and credited the author...  A great read BTW.)

Be well and have a good day !

You cannot control another forum member's behavior.  But you can control your reaction to it, or at least should be able to.  🙂

Finished my 5th and final German BC regrind and recieved 36.000 (+1.800 Clan bonus) RB when I played Schlieffen. I will wait for a while if there is a new event like Kitikami coming as I have only 3 upgrades which I miss. Continued on Encounter and L Aventurier so that they are ready near release of next update. Finished second iteration of Operations on PTS. As there were a ribbon mission I did not play Jäger. Did anyone in the forum play Jäger preferably with Swirski on PTS operations?

Result of the 5 regrinds for German BCs is that I have 14 p from T3-5, 15 for T6, 18 T7 , 19 T8 and I reached 21 on the T9.

I made enough mistakes in the battle to think not.  I ate a sub torp early because I forgot that I was not going full speed.  I got myself spotted unnecessarily while I was sinking the four cruisers at the end.  It could have ended badly, but we were up on points and would win even if I did not get the last one, and our Colorado had tucked himself away to keep us from losing even had I screwed up.

Ummm often it's MY fault, since I tend to play DD's a lot. That said I do my best to still be alive at the 10 minute mark...

Maybe it isn't WG driving weird MM results, maybe it's the alien space bats!

Have an awesome Monday folks!

WHAT?!?!  You mean, for real, that we have a MM that actually works;  that we have no complaints; or, our teaming is so good, we can't lose in PVE????  Holy POCK !  I never knew that !!!!   Well, there goes the neighborhood.....

Complaining is as American as Apple Pie mon......  It's our moral and institutional responsibility to whine and moan....  👍

We have a matchmaking which works sufficiently well that I know not to blame it when I f*** up and lose.
