This feels weird...

...and wrong.  I do not dd in any competitive game mode.  I do not want to be a major liability to my team.  I am horrible and I know it.  I do, however, dd quite a bit in co-op.  Every game I have played with a destroyer, I have played them as gunboats.  I set the ships up as gunboats.  I set the skippers up as gunslingers.  I play a hard, aggressive, bare knuckle brawling style.

That certainly explains why I never got past tier 4 in IJN destroyers.  Tonight, I did this and it felt so strange to have more torpedo hits than main battery hits.  This has to be Bizarro world.  Am I right?  Can this dog learn a new trick?

Point of clarity.  I did actually get to tier 7 in the IJN line long ago playing them as gunboats.  It was such a bad experience that I abandoned the lines.  I still have the tier 7's in my fleet.  They are set up as gunboats.  What a nightmare to play them that way.  I need to rethink those ships.  Picking up the game again after a layoff, there's tons of stuff I am still learning about my fleet.

The point is that I've never play torpedo boats AS torpedo boats until tonight.  I don't want to mislead anyone here.

tier 4 tends to be a lot more forgiving in co-op, so you can get away with some mistakes that could cost you your ship in higher tiers.  That said, in general for torpedo boats in PVE you should be using your guns to soften up targets or eliminate low HP targets (including other destroyers.)  Launching a rack of torpedoes at a low HP target is lot of wasted ordnance.  If it is your only target fine, but you should always weigh this against your reload time.
