I remember when there were two nations in the tech tree...US and IJN.

When AA skills actually worked, A full AA build could reach 8+ km range and disintegrate any plane that dare to get within its range.

Ah, yes, when the downside of an AA build in most games was compensated by slaughtering plane squadrons when you were in a CV game, and CVs could be completely deplaned.

When blowouts were rare, and draws weren't.

When the drops in Christmas boxes were wildly generous and you would get at least 4x the value of what you spent overall, and there were duplicate drops of Premium ships that granted the full Doubloon value of of the duplicate.

Six Tirpitz per side when it was new.

When you started a tech tree from the bottom.

Remember the infamous Murmansk Incident?

I got into WOWS at the end of the closed Beta.  Humble Bundle had a package that included a ticket to get you into the Beta (cost me $2).  The package included a free Murmansk and other freebies.  Everyone assumed the Murmansk was free to keep, that is until WeeGee said otherwise at the end of closed Beta.  After a bit of community uproar, WG re-considered.

I was lucky to get invited into Alpha testing in NA just before that ended. I sure miss RTS CVs which I would be playing if they were still here. You could get deplaned. You had to 'plan' what all those squadrons would do. AA was real. Really, inexplicable that 'War Failing' wrecked WoWS with the CV rework (plus a lot of other crap changes since then, as well) 😒 I also miss the many close battles & even some draws & some of the old maps. The big question is how much longer War Failing lasts since I, personally, will never give that 💩 owner another penny no matter what that 💩 now tries to sell 😁

The mode Zone? where you won by killing all ships or forcing them out of the middle circle. But if one ship remained it was a draw, More than half of my draws are from that game mode.

Weekly mission get a kraken and survive and get 10 100 % XP Camos. It was multi-stage mission but roughly so was the last one.

The second? Halloween event where you bought boxes to collect all the fancy halloween skins, sure it was lootboxes but they were generous as you got doubloons for the duplicates and the camos you got had value at those days.

The summersales which were quite good value especially when you did not had that many premium ships.

Thanks @DDG44_Vet

I remember how we could fly the Zulu signal flag on our ships. Mikasa now feels strangely underdressed.

Are you talking about Epicenter?

No. Epicenter did not feature that early. You did not have points that ticked if I remember correctly , instead it was number of ships.

No, he meant its predecessor, so to say: a single, big cap in a more or less central position on the map which took quite a while to take (I think it was 3 or 4 minutes, my memory is hazy since we're talking about up to 0.5.X, maybe 0.6.X, i.e. 2017 at the very latest, and mainly lower tiers) but whichever team did it automatically won regardless of time and sunk ships. It resembled in a way the current late stage of Arms Race, without the shrinking circle.

Epicenter itself had two iterations: the original one, where contesting the inner circle stopped the addition of points altogether and you had to own it in order to get points from the rings, provided they weren't being blocked themselves (Tears of the Desert was particularly loathed when in combination with that mode); and its slightly more dynamic evolved form, where circle and rings were contested separatedly, hence your team had to have ships in every single one of them instead of a lone DD from each team sitting at the circle and forcing an attrition battle upon everybody else.

Salute.

LOL.

The drops becoming slightly less generous was understandable (eventually they became even less so), but the end of duplicate drops granting full dub value for the duplicate caused my spending to drop to 20% of what it had been. At the end of one Christmas I had all the rarities (except Iwaki and Ark Beta, ofc) and something like 140k doubloons.

Problem: players trying to use the Santa crates to get every ship including the ultra-banned ones don't want duplicate dubs; they prefer the current situation, where duplicates are absolutely locked out and every ship that drops is something you don't already have. I think I have every Tier 5 to 7 that can drop, and a good slice of the banned ships as well while they were still available, which is probably the reason I got the Missouri last Christmas from only a limited number of crates (with no net dubs spent after whaling hard the two previous years).

Only goes to show you can't please everyone all the time. And WG has an incentive to NOT hand out huge volumes of doubloons hand-over-fist. They've steadily been closing the loopholes for that, and I can comprehend their desire to do so even if it's less lucrative for us.

Yeah, as the saying goes, you can please some people all the time and all the people some of the time, but you can't please all the people all the time.... or am I thinking of something else....

No, that's "You can FOOL some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time..."

Then there's the song that goes

But it's alright now

I learned my lesson well

You can't please everyone so you

Gotta please yourself.

My situation was optimal in that I already had most of the rarities. So when I dropped Gremy, Kamikaze, and Fujin early (I had missed Fujin in its mission, but had Kamikaze R), I was set for Doubloon farming. I picked up most of the remaining premiums, and remember laughing aloud when I dropped a duplicate Enterprise and two duplicate Belfasts.

Holy f****'n s***, reckon you got enough RNG for several people for many years. 🤣

These days if you have everything and it rolls a ship you get steel, so I guess that's a thing... steel camos all round, or save up for the next ship if you don't yet have them all... I know there are some people who have all the steel ships and stupid amounts of steel, but I'm not the Clan or Ranked Battles type; practically all of mine comes from Battle Passes and the Christmas snowflakes.

I have all the banned ships I want now, that I missed out on previously, so I no longer feel the urge to go Santa Crate whaling.

As someone who's been unable to welcome the Enterprise, Musashi and Missouri to my port for a number of years, well, congratulations @Pugilistic.  👍

I had the keys to the luckbox that season, at its end I had every Premium in the game except Iwaki A and Ark Beta.

I remember when WG were trying to get everyone to like and play CVs after the rework.  From my perspective, they were just throwing premium carriers at me to entice me to play.  I got Ark Royal, Saipan, Enterprise and Graf Zeppelin all during that time.  It worked too, for a minute.  As soon as the shiny wore off, they started collecting rust.  I would gift them to you if I could.

That's as good a way to put it as any. I just wish I could have scored my Missouri before the credit printer got removed. Oh well, she's still a good ship and I enjoy playing her. And that radar surprises Italian bots that think they can smoke up close to me and get away with it.
