SoshiSone
I came across this the other day and have a hypothesis. I was shooting at a DD pretty close with my BB and had been cycling salvos. When I looked at the replay, the shells fell short of of aim. Then I noticed the angle of my ship and distance to target (as measured from center of ship) was offset by the approximate shell drop ellipse. In other words, the algorithm calculated distance between ship and DD based on ship center and used this distance to center the ellipse. I fired rear turrets. As these turrets were displaced away from the DD, so was the ellipse, and they all fell short. This will be more obvious on short range shots because the ellipse is smaller. As range increases, the ellipse size increase, thereby swamping any displacement errors due to ship alignment. The effect would not be as obvious when firing forward turrets because the turret elevation is flat and even if the ellipse is on the far side of the target, you'll still get superstructure hits. Thoughts? Anyone tested this in training room? Edited August 13 by SoshiSone
OT2_2
Have experienced the same several times lately and it was always in conjunction to a near island. Sailing on a BB (NCal) the salvos at broadside enemy ships at point blank range completely missed. Very annoying so to say. The nearby islands are distorting aim (lock on etc.) as it seems. Itwastuesday
I suppose it's possible? Annoying to test because afaik the shells going short happens with maneuvering ships. Also this would make Marlborough the most accurate since it always has to be perfectly broadside to shoot Edited August 13 by Itwastuesday

Lately, I've felt that I need to pay more attention to the relative movements of the ships (my ship and the targeted ship) and adjust my aim accordingly. Sure, I've been doing that all along (since I began playing). But it seems like I have to be more careful and precise nowadays. 🤔

There was an island next to the DD in my case.
