Ensign Cthulhu Posted August 9, 2024 Posted August 9, 2024 (edited) This is Potato Quality's review of the Vermont's (VT's) Unique Upgrade (UU), its ups and downs: Takeaway points: The module goes in slot 5 and gives 10% reload buff. It is thus capable of stacking with the reload module in slot six if one so chose. The benefit this gives Vermont if you have the Furious skill, Adrenaline Rush and Halsey's Confederate-related reload buff is obscene (sub 30 seconds, stock = 40 seconds). Going into slot 5 means it hobbles a full concealment build for the Vermont, a thing which PQ isn't entirely in favour of; VT is very concealable for a ship of her size and type (though he wonders if that might not be TOO good), and capable of springing nasty surprises because of this, in addition, PQ tends to hold his shots and wait for the perfect moment rather than pumping them out as soon as they're ready to go. Thus he acknowledges that there were shots he took where the faster reload wasn't actually of benefit and he would have preferred to remain unspotted with the extra concealment the mod cost him. He also does acknowledge that those who expect to have a full 40 seconds to complete their gamer turn in front of a VT might be in for a nasty shock, and this is also demonstrated in spectacular fashion. In PQ's opinion, going full reload is not advisable; he tried it, and stated that losing APR Mod 2 with its dispersion buff significantly degraded his accuracy and his ability to deliver punishing blows. The overall impression I get from watching this is that it's a very playstyle-dependent UU, and at the level he plays, it has both pros and cons (he mentions in this vid that in his opinion the Cristoforo Colombo UU is more of a straight buff). Whatever I may think of him (his tendency to slip some sort of anti-CV whine into everything he does is particularly annoying), there's no doubt he's one of the better PvP BB players out there, and he's not someone I'd want to see on the Red team if I'm going into Randoms; the effect could be compared to a chess beginner playing an exhibition game against the World Champion. All that being said, the downsides of sacrificing some dispersion and concealment feel like they might potentially not be as critical in co-op, where ranges are much shorter and having the next shot available ASAP to catch a bot disappearing behind an island or whatever is more important. I'm not really desperate for anything in the research bureau right now ship-wise, and a couple of the UU options - this one especially - are not without their attractions. Anyway - I'm off to watch his Cristoforo Colombo UU vid now and see if that one is as exciting as he makes it out to be in this vid. Edited August 9, 2024 by Ensign Cthulhu 1 2
mashed68 Posted August 9, 2024 Posted August 9, 2024 This in slot 5 plus dispersion in slot 6. Not like Vermont players push forward anyways.

As a co-op player, I assure you I push forward. But yeah, four seconds off the reload AND dispersion bonuses intact is going to be *chef's kiss* as a general-purpose build. 1
mashed68 Posted August 9, 2024 Posted August 9, 2024 I see everything in a anything other then co-op shade lol. I only use co-op for DD missions or potential damage in my Napoli. 1
Itwastuesday Posted August 10, 2024 Posted August 10, 2024 Seems really bad. If you want to nonstop hammer the enemy until they fall, there are better ships for that.
torino2dc Posted August 11, 2024 Posted August 11, 2024 A good Vermont game is 4 meaty salvoes. A great game is 6 such chunks. I struggle to see how significantly worse stealth makes this easier.

This really isn't a topic on the virtues of Vermont vs other ships. 9 hours ago, torino2dc said: I struggle to see how significantly worse stealth makes this easier. The very point that PQ was making. As a co-op main, I don't have to consider concealment anywhere near as much as high-level PvP players. I can afford to lose that. I know you most likely can't.
