xamdam Posted August 8, 2024 Posted August 8, 2024 Feels more like a "Daily Chore" to me. Sure, free stuff and all but it's hard to get excited about drip fed gray boosters (about as exciting as pulling my graying nose and ear hairs), 50K credits (whoopee!), 1 day of prem and a whopping 50 Doubloons! Did they always name it this or are they just trolling us now? I think it's just to get more "clicks" (armory, doesn't need to login to game) and the "Daily Rewards" are just to show potential collaborators just how popular their game is by how many login per day. This patch's "Battle Pass" or whatever they call it now has absolutely nothing of interest for me either. No more Mode Shuffle, just the basic three choices and whenever ranked comes online (usually during my offline hours). sigh... 1

Completing the full paid pass yields 210 tokens (technically at least 220 since the container at the end drops at least 10), which isn’t enough for any of the featured items. This should be expected, of course, but the other items available are lackluster as well. That said, the single Colorful Regata container available in the Armory for coal gave me 20 tokens yesterday. I did the math and if I purchase the event pass I should have enough tokens before the discount coupon expires to pick up North Carolina CLR. I purchase my doubloons once a year in a big batch with the 100% cash back birthday coupon, so ~$5 US for a premium version of NC is tempting… Edited August 8, 2024 by Nevermore135

Or if you loved the NC but had omitted to leave a 21 pointer in it or needed him elsewhere more urgently... (I had the most bizarre thing happen with the NC. She was the best BB ever when I was grinding her. Now that I'm done with her grind, I can't make her perform! 🤣) I do wish they'd made the discount valid for the whole patch, though. Not impressed. 2 hours ago, Nevermore135 said: This patch’s Event Pass is indeed pretty unremarkable. Some of them have been pretty spectacular, others not so much; but if some of them don't make me want to spend dubs, I don't consider it a problem. They can't please everyone all the time, and this time around that includes me.

But at the same time, not really surprising either. It’s not the first time they’ve had a coupon that is only available at the start of an event, and expires before you’d be able to use it without spending money.

Habit Formation is a tried and tested game mechanic used by countless game developers. Daily check-ins that reward daily gameplay. Daily containers. Daily Rewards. All of these are well designed mechanics with the goal of forming a 'daily routine' in the game which it is hoped, will eventually lead the player to make cash purchases. 3

Oddly enough the old expression "familiarity breeds contempt" is probably more appropriate for this mechanic. I am always amazed by posts from returning players going on about how much fun the game is (because it seems new again) versus us daily players who are just kind of tired of the same old stale things over and over again. There is a reason McDonalds only releases the McRib every so often. 2

Pretty good ship, and that camo is very good looking ( in my opinion ). Too bad WG doesnt sell them separately for any ship. I really like the Roon camo too, but i wont buy a premium version of a ship i FXP'd after just a few battles.

North Carolina has always been a gem among tier VIII BBs, and the relatively recent accuracy buff (2.0 to 2.1 sigma) has only helped. Her shells are floaty and her hull punishes showing broadside, so she teaches and rewards the fundamentals. I also think of all the CLR ships, NC pulls off the camo the best. I’m a big fan of German cruisers, having reset the line multiple times (and plan to do so again now that the ships have depth charge airstrikes), and Roon is the one tier V+ ship in the line that I don’t enjoy playing. The return to the A-XY turret arrangement after Yorck and Hipper’s balanced AB-XY setup is awkward and limiting, and the reduction in torpedo power compared to the four ships that precede her (4 vs. 6 of the same torpedoes per side with ~1/3 longer reload) is significant. I honestly find Roon CLR’s camo to be the least visually appealing of the four ships. It looks bland and washed-out against the water in a lot of screenshots I’ve seen. IMO, if WG wanted to stick with the red-blue-yellow primary color theme for the first three ships they should have opted for a darker blue that would have provided more striking light effects with the metallic finish. To say nothing of the fact that Roon's aft turrets are too big and too close together to be all-round rotators like her baby sisters', something WG could have handwaved since she's a paper ship and which might have made her a lot easier to play - especially in co-op. About the only thing that kept me going through that grind was the Hindenburg Iron Cross permacamo I won from a Distant Voyages container back when they still had the econ bonuses baked in. There are some predecessor ships I've happily played even after moving up to the Tier 10, and which I'd happily welcome/pay for a premium version of, but Roon ain't one of them. Even the extra gun overall wasn't enough to compensate for the clunkiness. Edited August 8, 2024 by Ensign Cthulhu
