Snargfargle
My unit's 8-inch guns had exactly one way to fire them. Iowa-class battleships have nine 16-inch guns. How many triggers do you think are available to fire those nine guns? Like the number of licks it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop, according to the curator of the New Jersey, the world may never know. 2
Asym
Well done. I have visited that New Jersey and it is so massively 'redundant' it boggles the mind ! Imagine, troubleshooting all of the weapons and power plant redundant systems. Some of us got an "inclusive tour" because of our Rank and went where the normal tours don't go.........in this video you see a shot of a Wall of Round knob looking devices/switches. They are the manual re-routing firing circuits........they can "manually" re-route the "firing circuits">! Holy crap !!! Imaging the amount of copper wire that took !!! Great piece. Us tankers were always jealous that the Artillery crews had a lanyard ! Arrrrrr, fire maties ! versus Fire, on-the-way......sigh, how genteel.... Those 8-inch howitzers were real "cave man" artillery. However, they also were the most accurate artillery in the Army inventory before GPS-guided munitions. We had the entire battalion out once on the direct fire range. The gun crews were hitting oil barrels at two kilometers distance. It was quite a show seeing twelve 8-inch howitzers firing all at once.
