That perfectly describes the experience I had with the recently concluded Brawl for Tier IX cruisers. Popular ships (at least from what I've seen) were Alaska, Agir, Michelangelo, and it was a lot of fun fighting against enemy cruisers without the nuisance of having to deal with other ship types.

I took the Riga, Kronshtadt, Tulsa, and the Alaska, and they've been very comfortable to play with. I have not played the Tulsa in PVP yet ever since I got her from a Santa Container. With her very nice firing angles, the ship has been pleasantly fun to play.
