I got to say the movie was not boring. I find it funny and topical for the culture of Rock. It is good to see the youth carrying the touch of Metal. I only wished it was more around in my youth. All I had was the Dooby Brothers openly played repeatedly as if I was in a torture chamber. Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, and Led Zeppelin were talked about in hush tones. I remember boasting about finding AC/DC and people looked at me as if I had a stroke. Anyways, if you got the time and like metal rock, give it a go. I don't think you will be disappointed.

I read the book first and then saw the movie.

Yes, the book is massively better because of the Science details much of the movie simply didn't use.

BUT, having said that, that's just what I like.....

What are your thoughts.

OK, let me get this out of the way - I have not played a single second of Minecraft, and the vast majority of my exposure has come from watching my kids watch a whole bunch of prominent Minecraft Youtubers over the past ten years, to the point where I have almost as good an idea of who these people are as I do the more prominent WOWS streamers. So it's safe to say that by the time this movie hit theatres, the audience it was pitched at has been soaked in Minecraft culture references for at least that long and sometimes more. THIS IS IMPORTANT.

I won't pull any punches - IMHO at best the story was mid, and Jack Black is the same insufferable "look at me!" jerk that he always is, with some moments of really gross innuendo involving his and Jason Momoa's characters. I'd rather watch Flamu be toxic for two hours, and mid-teenage son thought the plot sucked aft. But the amazing thing about it was the audience experience. The film was literally awash with memes and line drops, and every time one of them appeared, the audience erupted in cheers and clapping, sometimes shouting out the line. They were having a blast, and this factor alone was why my kids saw the film a second time the next evening.

The most touching of these moments was a brief appearance of a pig with a crown on its head which Jack Black's character calls "a legend", a shout-out to the avatar of a MC youtuber named Technoblade, who died of cancer at an unpleasantly young age a few years ago. The whole theatre spontaneously cheered at that point, including the adults who knew who he was and what had happened to him. That was the moment which showed that someone involved in the making of this thing had read the room and understood the fanbase, and it's probably the reason why the film doubled its projected opening-weekend takings. 

It's hilarious, and possibly unique in cinema: the film is doing incredibly well because the audience is coming back time and again to point, mock and laugh.

As stated in the movies, I was surprised that there was only three federal centers at the time (1947) that did smallpox testing. None of them located in NYC. And the movie had their share of ani-vax'ers too. I was surprise the production company did not do more smallpox sore makeup for patient zero, but then again I guess it would turn the public off or go against the movies codes of the time. Still this movie was more film noir than horror. I was entertained.

I know you guys have some opinions on the subject. I was wondering what is your "nope", never again movies that disturb you.

I'll admit I am misunderstanding the two Star War series because of timelines in those universes. It could be because of the big picture I am not seeing the expected ending. A gentleman in Moscow, I thought it was going to be a clear ending for a docu drama. I will not spoil the ending for that series. I thought that some blurb was going to state things about Russia for the series timeline. And Juliet, Naked started to be a bad ending for me until I saw a final cut scene which saved it.

To me it seems that endings in media are not important in the story telling anymore as with the beginnings. Maybe it's because of my age when compared to younger viewers and scriptwriters. I am not expecting a happy ending, but rather a chapter completion. I am seeing too many TV/Movies do “Whatever” endings.
